Introduction
Guidance provides children with appropriate and positive models of
behaviour and helps them to develop respect, self-regulation, self-
confidence and sensitivity as they learn and grow. Guidance is needed while
appropriate behaviour is happening, as well as before, during, and after
inappropriate behaviour is displayed.
This paper is consisted with all the 6 lectures of the subject by answering the questions given.
The purpose of the paper is to complete the final assignment of the module Behavior in guiding
young children. The paper discusses about the way we should guide young children towards
education, creating a better learning environment for young children, The way we should
respond and overcome challenging behavior in young Children, we create a Positive Behavior
Support (Behavior Management Principles)with regard to an ideal classroom climate, What are
the restorative practices that can be applied in guiding young children, the common
contemporary factors that impact on a child’s Wellbeing, the Behavior interventions
Techniques that can be implemented for the children’s’ wellbeing. I used all the notes provided
by the lecturer and some scholar articles to support my answers.

Question 1
What is your understanding of how significant it is to guide young children
with education?
When discussing facts under this topic it is compulsory to have a clear idea about what is
guidance? In brief, guidance is how we help children to learn the prospects for behavior in
various situations, to help them being a member of the society, to help them learn by their
mistakes and it is clear that guidance is not punishment, controlling or making fear on adults.
The main focus is to identify the children and creating the most suitable physical and social
environment which they can learn. A pre- school teacher should not try to control the child’s
behavior. The educator or the care giver should guide the kid to be a good listener, to follow
directions, to manage emotions and actions, to tolerate others to cooperate with the society.
Positive guidance helps the child to improve the social, emotional and the cognitive
development of the children in EC environment. In brief, if the parents, caregivers, teachers
and other elders can give a positive guidance to the children in their early education
successfully, it will be a teaching of skills not only for the school, but also for the lifelong
success. Especially young children should be guided to behave in self- regulations, to have the
ability to control their selves, expressing strong emotions in non- hurting ways and that leads
to have a lifelong education.

Question 2
How do you create an ideal Learning Environment for young Children?
Explain with examples?
Learning environment can be identified the area
which provides opportunities for children to develop.
It consisted with, classrooms, play area, areas for
caregiving routine, outdoor areas…etc. Learning
environments for young children should be always
well planned and well arranged. There should be
enough provision of developmentally appropriate
schedules, lesson plans and indoor and outdoor chances for choice as well as play, explore and
experimental opportunities. When creating an ideal Learning Environment for young children,
we should always concentrate on several factors. They are; establish a supportive learning
culture, it should concentrate on learner’s needs, it should be always a positive sight and should
be content with a good feedback, celebrations of success, safety and there should be employ
interactive games and activities. There we can discuss about seven policies that works when
creating an ideal learning environment for young children. They are; building rapport between
the children and the teachers, providing chances in group work as more learning occurs in
social, but not in individual or isolated, children should actively engage in learning using the
four skills, giving immediate feedback, offering accessible time for learning, high expectations,
there should be respect for the different talents which different children belong. By paying
attention to those principles, we will be able to create an ideal learning environment for young
children.

Question 3
How do you respond and overcome challenging behavior in young Children?
Explain with examples?
Challenging behavior can be identified as any repeated pattern of
behavior that affects with or is at risk of interfering with the child’s
optimal learning or engagement in pro- social interactions with peers
and adults” (Smith & Fox,2003, p.6)
We can identify different types of challenging behavior in young children. They are; withdrawn
behavior- shyness, rocking, staring, anxiety. Disruptive behaviors such as; calling out of the
class, refusing to follow instructions, shouting. violent and unsafe behavior such as; Aggression
including hitting, kicking, biting, self- injurious behavior like head banging, biting own self,
hitting own self, throwing items, breaking things are some examples for challenging behavior.
Inappropriate social behavior such as; inappropriate conversations, stealing, being over
affectionate, inappropriate touching and masturbation. For a challenging behavior in a young
student, there can be many reasons. For example, if there is a considerable medical issue, a
traumatic experience or lack of social skills, environmental factors, classroom organization
issues can make the behavior of a young child challengeable. We can cope with such situations
in several ways. We can let the student self- manage and ask them to reflect what they did and
to understand. As for an example, if a kid become aggressive and throw his books, when he
became calm, we can show the books on the ground and kindly ask them to remind what they
did n ask is it a good thing to be done. Then he will understand and correct it. We can turn
negatives into positives. For example, if we want to give instructions for kids, we can use
politer words than using commands. We can teach the students positive behavior. For example,
if we really want to stop the students’ noises, we can allocate a time for them to do loud singing.
We can ask them to sing louder as they can on that time. Then the kids will use to do it on the
particular period and the teacher won’t use the word ‘no’ on them. Teacher can model the
behavior they expect; teacher can establish a class code of conduct. At the beginning of a class
the teacher can get together with the students and can establish a set of rules for the year.
Therefore, then the behavior of the students won’t irrupt the class time to time. Teacher can
recognize good behavioral achievement, can develop protective relationships. As well as the
teacher can keep the class destructions minimal.

Question 4
How in your experience will you create a Positive Behavior Support
(Behavior Management Principles) with regard to an ideal classroom?
Positive Behavior Support (PBS) can be identified as a set of techniques that have founded
through a research to enhance the quality-of-life skills and to reduce problematic behavior by
conveying new skills and setting changes in a person’s environment. PBS normally connects
with; Valued outcomes, Behavioral and biomedical science, Validated procedures, Systems
change to enhance quality of life and reduce problem behaviors. By considering all these
points, in brief positive behavior support is directing a child towards the correct path to teach
him how to behave in the correct way. To develop an ideal classroom with the use of PBS, we
have to use the strategies and behavior management techniques. Some of those techniques are;
model ideal behavior- the teacher can act out the expected behavioral pattern with another
teacher to demonstrate the class to take an idea about the way they should behave. Let students
help establish guidelines- if a teacher can take the support of the students to establish rules and
regulations for the academic year at the beginning according to their suggestions combined
with the teachers, the students will follow the rules and will obey them with a great desire.
Document rule- give the established rules in a printed paper for the students. they will have a
feeling of added value to their ideas. Avoided punishing the class – if the teacher can treat the
misbehavior individually without punishing or neglecting the student, they will feel more
secured and comfortable in the classroom situation. Encourage initiative and offer praise - let
them get the chance to work
future more in front to the
lesson and when the teacher
finds something worth done
by the child, he or she should
be openly praise and
congratulate. The motivation
can take them steps ahead on
their pathway. The teacher
can use non-verbal
communication, hold parties,
give tangible rewards, make

positive letters and phone calls, consider peer teaching and so on. to create an ideal classroom.
After creating an ideal classroom with the use of PBS strategies, we can see a number of
positive results. Such as students will have strong interpersonal relationships between the
teacher student as well as between the peers. We will be able to see a more obedient class. Not
only that, but also the students will take the responsibilities of their own and the class will be
more active and engaging as well as the parents will be more satisfied. Hope it is clear to show
how an ideal classroom is designed using the PBS strategies.

What are the restorative practices that can be applied in guiding young
children? Please give examples.
Restorative practices can be identified as a mode of theory which can establish or revitalize
relationships in the society. The purpose of restorative practices is to build good relationship
among communities, build healthy relationship, decrease crime and antisocial activities.
Restorative practices help the students to solve disagreements in the classroom. As well as it
guides the students the act of empathy and forgiveness. Restorative practices help the children
to learn about holding responsibilities, building relationships, alleviate problems such as
bullying, classroom disruption, poor attendance and many more. There are many restorative
practices that can be applied in guiding young children. Mindfulness is one of the concepts that
can be used for young children. It makes the students aware about the place where they are and
who are the people around them. For example, if the child is given opportunities to understand
the difference between the school and home and on the same time the difference between
family members and the teacher and friends that would be easy to handle them in the school.
Community Building circles is another practice that we can apply in guiding young children.
For example, when the students are guided to accept each other’s ideas and opinions through
group work it will be an invest on child behavior. Within the norm setting process they can
broadly discuses about love, care, affection and all the values that they need in their
relationships. For example, if the teachers can ask the students to be mindful about how they
want others to treat them and explain in the same way others too like to be treated, it would be
more effective. Making rules for the class with the students together is called collaborative
class agreements. When it puts into practice students will be automatically framed for the
classroom and teachers can use affective statements in the classroom too. As an example, when
the teacher set the rules with the students together, students too can make suggestions like,
students should not talk in their mother tongue during the English period. For example, a
teacher can discuss with the students what can happen in a school like sudden injuries, fighting.
And then teacher can discuss the solutions for those problems with the students. It makes the

students aware of getting the correct decisions at the correct time. These are some of the best
restorative practices that we can use to guide young children in the classroom.

Question – 6
What are the common contemporary factors that impact on a child’s
Wellbeing? Explain with examples.
Parents, caregivers, stress, play, perfect team to raise a
healthy child, learning environments are the common
contemporary factors that impact on a child’s wellbeing.
Parents and caregivers make their children assure and
equipped with the skills to be a successful adult. Both parents
and caregivers provide emotional values such as, love
acceptance, appreciation, encouragement and guidance to
their children. They help the child to have a balanced
personality and identity as well as, they improve physically,
cognitively, emotionally and socially. When it is up to an
infant, they nee d the parents’ affection, care and attraction
a lot. Soothing, changing, feeding and all their needs should be done as they needed with
affection. It helps to develop a good parental attachment with the parent or the caregiver and
the infant benefits to have a balanced personality. This attachment works as a foundation of a
child’s social, cognitive and emotional development. On the same time the multicultural
background of parents too effect on the basics of the child’s personality. Parental attention
towards the teenagers and the youth too is extremely important. As well as the children who
tend on transgender, bisexual, gay, lesbian need their parents’ acceptance and affection to be
back to normal. Stress starts under the situations of neglecting, abuse and under harsh
parenting. If the parents put their children under a high stress at a very early stage, it may occur
chronical mental diseases. If adults can help to have positive stress on children it will help them
to develop in education. For example, when a student gets stressed before an exam, anyhow he
will manage to cover his subject areas to get through the exam. It helps the child to learn how
manage the stress and the stress pushes the child towards success and sometimes the long-term
stress can harm a child too. Toxic stress during the pregnancy can harm the baby too. As well
as the above-mentioned points, play too impact on child’s wellbeing. Play is a major role in a
child’s life as it develops all cognitive, physical, mental and emotional well- being. Play is
important in a child’s life as it build’s imagination and creativity, fosters cognitive growth,
reaps emotional and behavioral benefits, facilitates group interaction, encourages greater

development and to promotes physical fitness. Building a positive learning environment is
another factor that can impact a child’s wellbeing. A positive learning environment provides
them the co- regulation they need in their personality growth.

Question – 7
Explain the Behavior interventions Techniques that can be implemented for
a child’s wellbeing.
Behavior intervention can be identified as a plan that planned to guide and reward children
with positive behaviors. For example, we can teach children what to do in the classroom, silent
signal can be practiced to make students attentive. In a classroom teacher use number of
intervention techniques to teach the students behavior. State the appropriate behavior while
praising. For example, if the teacher needs to practice the students to complete their work on
time, the teacher can praise the child right after completing his work with using words such as;
“good job”, “excellent” …etc. giving the praise immediately is extremely important. As well
as it is very much important to vary the words the teacher uses to praise the students and use
appropriate body language while praising them. Teachers can show more interest on what the
child shows interest and can actively engage in such activities with the child together. Being
open minded is another technique that a teacher, parents or a care giver can use to teach
children. If the child does not match with the ideas of the teacher or the respective caregiver,
it’s better not to give judgements on
the particular child. The best thing
is to make a general comment about
the action or the idea in common
without pointing out the child.
Teacher can be a role model of the
good behavior she expects from the
children. For example, while
having lunch, teacher can have
lunch with the students together. As
kids love to follow adults, they will do a keen examine on their teacher. When the teacher uses
serviettes on her lap and on the table and when she uses the utensils properly children will be
automatically learning them with observation. Later on the teacher can praise them on their
doings. Being fair to all the students is another way that we can use in the classroom to make
them confident enough. Always the teacher should concentrate on the rules and statements she
made in the classroom. Then the students will feel a sense of secure in the classroom. Hurdle
helping is another technique which we can use in the classroom. For an example, when the
14 | P a g e
teacher assigns an assignment, teacher can provide support, guidance and assistance throughout
the work to avoid children getting frustrated. According to my view than using punishments in
the classroom it is always wise and practical to stimulate the positive behaviors of the students
by praising. It can remove the negative behaviors of the students due to the likeness of being
praised by the teacher. These are some of the behavior intervention techniques that teachers
can use with in the classroom for wellbeing of their children.
