Objectives:
To experience real life hospital setting.
To put what we've learn in school into practice and obtain real-world experience.
To get experience with various types of patients.
Tuesday, December 12th, 2023 is the current date. We were assigned to work in the Southern
Isabela Medical Center, where Ma'am Jenny Vi Andaya was in charge of our supervision. One of the most
important moments in our lives as nursing students is the Capping, Pinning, and Candle Lighting
Ceremony that we will be participating in on Monday. As aspiring nurses, we are given the opportunity to
gain essential knowledge and experience through a role that lasts only one day. It is necessary for us to
demonstrate determination and acquire information in order for our efforts to produce good outcomes,
which will ultimately lead to rewards. Furthermore, because it was the last day that was allocated for this
treatment, we were needed to accomplish a half-day duty at the hospital in order to return to the school
for the purpose of completing our clearance documents. This was the final day that this procedure was
carried out.
Our Clinical Instructor is waiting for us in the lobby during the morning hours, and we are patiently
waiting for him whenever we arrive early. Subsequently, when our Clinical Instructor arrived, she was the
only one who offered an explanation and led us around the various rooms, as well as the dental regions
and the outpatient department. Given that our leader had chosen our regions for the assignment the
night before, she gave us instructions to proceed to the spot that had been assigned to us. Given that this
is our first experience with the field of internal medicine, Alexa and I have been assigned to work in it.
However, we are not very knowledgeable about it. On the other hand, internal medicine is the branch of
medicine that is responsible for conducting comprehensive examinations on patients and also providing
them with prescriptions for necessary medications.
Due to the fact that this was our first assignment at SIMC, my partner and I felt a little anxious when
we entered the room that was designated for internal medicine shortly after our arrival. Furthermore, we
were taken aback by the overwhelming number of patients that were allocated to us from the beginning.
On the other hand, as nursing students and those who are interested in becoming nurses, it is our
responsibility to actively participate in clinical practice. We are entirely concerned with evaluating the vital
signs and other critical physiological indications of our patients, which is the emphasis of our practice. In
addition, we take careful measurements of their height and weight. Fortunately, we use a manual method
that enables us to quickly establish the patient's height and weight while they are standing erect. This
allows us to provide accurate and timely information. We also took their blood pressure (BP), as well as
their pulse rate (PR), and their respiratory rate (RR). Patients who are confined to wheelchairs receive two
stars on the chart, whereas patients who are confined to stretchers receive three stars. Due to the fact
that we are healthcare providers, we have encountered a wide variety of individuals and conditions.
Providing assistance to those who are in need, particularly those who are economically disadvantaged, is
something that provides us a great deal of satisfaction.
We would like to express our appreciation to our Clinical Instructor for providing us with the
opportunity to gain significant experience that will be of great use to us in our future employment as
Registered Nurses. I made use of my abilities to conduct an in-depth analysis of the nurses' work practices
and put them into practice. Taking advantage of this opportunity to improve my talents and boost my self-
confidence is something that I am very excited about. I am generally pleased with my achievements,
particularly with regard to the enhancements I have made in the evaluation of vital signs and the
provision of patient care. In my current role as a nursing student, I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to
face new challenges and broaden my knowledge on a regular basis.
