Chapter 1
Introduction to Feasibility Study
Project Background and Rationale
As the population ages, more and more individuals seek
specialized care for their elderly loved ones. Assisted living
facilities offer a safe and secure environment with round-the-
clock supervision and medical attention to meet the needs of
those who require special assistance. In addition, they provide
various activities that help keep seniors engaged and socially
active.
An assisted living home or residential facility is actually a
temporary housing facility intended for those with special needs or
for senior citizens who either cannot or do not wish to live on their
own. The term assisted living refers to housing that is specifically
designed to meet the individual needs of older adults who are in need
of assistance in maintaining a comfortable lifestyle. This is
particularly important when it comes to seniors who seek to maintain
independence over placing unnecessary burdens on their loved ones.
Then again, senior citizens are at an increased risk for developing
physical and/or mental health problems, and this can have adverse
effects on their ability to live a life independent of others.
Additionally, they tend to develop Alzheimer’s or other memory-related
diseases as a result of living on their own. This can make it
extremely difficult for them to retain information for any length of
time.
Assisted living provides seniors access to 24-hour medical
supervision and assistance from trained professionals. This
includes help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing,
medication management, and meal preparation – all of which make
life easier and safer. The level of support available varies
depending on the individual’s specific needs. Still, the
commitment to providing quality care that meets each person’s
unique requirements remains consistent across all types of
assisted living facilities.
There are a wide variety of assisted living facilities available
in the Philippines and around the world. Most facilities are designed
to meet the needs of the elderly, disabled, and physically challenged.
However, there are also some assisted living homes that are specially
designed for those who do not have disabilities.
Finally, one significant advantage of choosing an assisted
living facility in the Philippines is cost savings. With lower
operational costs than other countries, Filipino establishments
offer excellent value for money while maintaining high safety and
comfort standards. In addition to these financial benefits,
families gain peace of mind knowing that their loved ones are
receiving round-the-clock attention from experienced personnel in
a safe environment tailored specifically to meet their needs.
The province of Aklan is one of the provinces in Panay
Island. Based on the latest 2020 Philippine Statistics Authority
Population Census, the province has a total of 66, 039
individuals aged from 60 years old and above. That is 11% of the
province’s total population of 615, 475. Since the rapid change
of lifestyle happening in the country and the constant search for
convenient living even among the aged populations, the proponent
saw an opportunity to propose an assisted living facility in the
Province of Aklan.
Objective of the Study
The general objective of the proposed project is to
determine the management, marketing, technical, financial and
social feasibility of an assisted living facility in the Province
of Aklan. DMDC Medical Home Services is to provide a sense of
security, freedom, comfort, and convenience to seniors who may have
difficulty completing everyday tasks independently.
Description of the Proposed Project
An assisted living home or residential facility is a temporary
housing facility intended for those with special needs or for senior
citizens who either cannot or do not wish to live on their own. The
term assisted living refers to housing that is specifically designed
to meet the individual needs of older adults who are in need of
assistance in maintaining a comfortable lifestyle. This is
particularly important when it comes to seniors who seek to maintain
independence over placing unnecessary burdens on their loved ones.
DMDC Medical Home Services is for seniors who value their independence,
yet may already need help with activities of daily living such as bathing,
dressing, medication administration and more. The proposed project allows for a
personalized approach for its residents, with freedom to make choices that will
deliver day-to-day satisfaction.
Social stimulation will also be emphasized in the proposed
project where recreational activities will be regularly organized for
residents. In comparison, most long-term care provided by nursing
homes focuses primarily on meeting primary health needs without
offering many opportunities for socialization or leisure pursuits. The
proposed project amenities can range from meals prepared by
professional chefs to housekeeping services, transportation options,
beauty salons, libraries, fitness centers, and much more – all
designed to make life easier and enjoyable for its inhabitants.
Type of Business Organization
The type of business organization of the proposed project is
partnership. The proponent will team up with an investor to
finance the execution of the proposed project.
A partnership is a formal arrangement by two or more parties to
manage and operate a business and share its profits.
Business Name
The name of the proposed project is DMDC Medical Home Services. The
inspiration of the project name is that it came from the initial of the
proponent.
Business Logo
Business Location
The proposed project will be located at Estancia, Kalibo, Aklan.
The purpose of the proponent in selecting the location is that it is
close to her resident. Other factor also includes data from the latest
2020 Census of Population and Housing by Philippines Statistics
Authority that the Province of Aklan has 11% of population ranging
from 60 years old and above.
