INTRODUCTION
We are task to prepare at least one (1) accomplished project and at least one (1) on-going project
under your respective field of Civil Engineering Branches, stating the following:
a.) Project titles
b.) Project owners or clients
c.) Dates accomplished or started
d.) Location of projects
e.) Project Description and Purposes
f.) Picture or perspective of on-going projects
g.) Picture of accomplished projects
OBJECTIVES
1. To know what is a Vertical Construction.
2. To know the different types of Vertical Constructions.
3. To diffentiate Horizontal Construction and Veritical Canstruction.
What is Construction Engineering?
- Construction engineering, also known as construction operations,is a professional
subdiscipline of civil engineering that deals with the designing, planning, construction,
and operations management of infrastructure such as roadways, tunnels, bridges, airports,
railroads, facilities, buildings, dams, utilities and other projects.
What is Vertical Construction?
- refers to any construction that is built vertically, such as skyscrapers or high rises in a
city. These projects are more often found in urban areas and gateway markets, rather than
suburban or rural areas.
FIVE TYPES OF VERTICAL CONSTRUCTION
BUILDINGS
Over the years, the
construction of vertical
buildings has increased
exponentially, especially as
Engineers and Architects look
to create more value despite
working with limited spaces.
TOWERS
Due to their tall (mostly) design and reduced
surface area, towers make great examples of
vertical construction. While towers are often put to
various uses, they are not usually meant for
habitation like buildings. Instead, the strategic
height of towers enables them to be used for
visibility.
BILLBOARDS
While not as large as buildings or towers,
billboards are also classified as vertical
construction. That is, for the structure to
remain sturdy, it must be constructed and
supported by steel. Billboards usually have
three primary components:
the steel ( for supporting the frame), the artwork that bears the advertisement, and electrical
equipment for special effects and lighting.
VERTICAL LIFT BRIDGES
Although a lift bridge is often classified as horizontal construction, the bridge’s upward
movement and the need to provide enough vertical support make it a type of vertical
construction. These bridges often use towers equipped with counterweights.
SITE
WORK/ TOWER CRANE
Another important but often overlooked type of vertical construction is site work/
tower crane. When constructing vertical projects, construction engineers must set
up tower cranes to lift the heavy loads from the bottom of the site to the top of the
building.
