STRATEGIES AND METHODOLOGIES

This chapter describes the tactics and methods used to guide students toward the On-the-

Job Training goals and objectives. This chapter covers the Pre-OJT and actual OJT activities, as

well as the difficulties encountered and solutions implemented by the student trainees.

Last September 2023, the Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration had an

orientation at ASU-CFMS in Cafeteria Hall. The event was organized by students from the

Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration program who were all required to complete OJT.

Dr. Maricel G. Ronase and Mr. Ghelo B. Marcelino spoke about Personality Development and

other tips.

The professors recommended students to choose an agency or establishment that is

relevant to their field of specialization. They were needed to compile and submit documentation

such as a Letter of Request to Undergo OJT, Student Pledge and Waiver, Student Trainees

Rating Scale, Memorandum of Agreement for On-the-Job Training, Resume, and Log of

Activities prior to their immersion. The student trainees began their OJT after submitting the

required documentation and receiving approval from the institution.

50
ACTUAL OJT ACTIVITIES

On September 27,2023, the student trainees began their first day of training. They were

overjoyed about the assignment and the people they would be dealing with inside the workplace.

Mrs. Elizabeth A. Aldover, the head of Customs Brokerage Services, assigned us each a

particular assignment to do and learn.

The Following were the Major Task Performed

 In-cash and Deposit of money or cheque in different banks.

 Pick up of documents in different importer

 Pick up of DO and OR

 Notarization of documents in different importer

 Answered telephone calls, inquiring shipping lines of their details such as Demurrage,

Bill of Lading number, Registry Number, and Vessel. Name.

 Segregation of documents for not important to important.

 Passing of tickets in Manila International Container Port and Bureau of Customs, Port of

Manila in South.

 Web Tracking

 Pick up of documents in Lalamove.

51
PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED:

1.Superiors' instructions on jobs were unclear.

2.Working area is limited

SOLUTIONS:

1.The trainees approach the supervisor for clarification on the task at hand.

2.The trainees attempted to maximize their limited working space by cleaning the table of

extraneous items and keeping it nice and clean at all times.

52
SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

53
SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter presents the summary, conclusions and recommendations drawn by the OJT

student during the training at the EAA Cargo and Customs Brokerage Services at Room 3G 3 rd

floor at City Land Vito Cruz Tower 2 Malate, Manila.

SUMMARY

Fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration students are required to

complete a minimum of three hundred hours (300) of on-the-job training.

From September 27 to November 30,2023, the student trainee performed at EAA Cargo and

Customs Brokerage Services at City Land Vito Cruz Tower 2 Malate, Manila. The major goal of

the training was to give students the chance to develop practical and actual knowledge in the

field of Customs concerns through exposure and active involvement in the daily operations of the

customs department.

During the training period, the trainees were exposed to various activities such as in-cash

and check deposit in different importer, process of documents in Port of NAIA, Manila

International Container Port and Bureau of Customs, Port of Manila in South, for the notaries of

documents in different importer, segregation of documents for not important to important, pick

up of documents such as DO and OR in different importer, for giving of documents in different

importer.

These activities helped to improve their skills and personalities. Throughout the training,

the student trainees encountered numerous issues, such as confusing instructions on the task to

be performed, and when it came to electronic filling up at different banks, the trainees felt

anxious in depositing cash or checks. Nonetheless, the challenges faced were deemed beneficial

54
in terms of providing the student trainees with an outlet for self-improvement as well as an

opportunity to conduct an examination of one's strengths and limitations.

55
CONCLUSION:

Based on the trainees' activities, I was able to reach the following conclusions:

The student had several experiences and learned a lot by the end of the on-the-job

training term. She gained knowledge from the instructor on how to be a successful Customs

Broker. During this time, the trainee learned how to interact with the people around her,

specifically her coworkers. It is critical for one team to have camaraderie in order to work

successfully together and achieve their goals. She noticed that there was a difference between

school and the actual world. Because most of the time in school, you only learnt conceptually,

whereas in the real world, you actually experienced what your trainers taught you.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

The trainee advises the following based on the outcome of the training;

Each trainee must concentrate on his or her work. They should pay close attention to their

boss's directions. If they do not understand something, they should seek clarification. In order to

learn, you must be aggressive. You should be the one who takes the initiative to learn. Deal with

your problem calmly so that everything turns out fine. Trainees should always maintain a

positive attitude while working because your mood will effect the work of your coworkers. You

should be punctual and self-assured in your work.
