(JAFAR and IAGO exit stage, passing ALADDIN as he runs across from stage
right to stage left, pursued by the GUARDS. )

ALADDIN

CITIZEN 1
That boy has been stealing my apples again!
CITIZEN 2
He's a public threat!
ALADDIN
Guys, calm down, okay? I mean… you wouldn't attack a man for stealing
one piece of fruit, would you? (the GUARDS draw their swords) … I'll take
that as a yes.
MALE CITIZEN 1
Hey! He's getting away!
MALE CITIZEN 2
Somebody stop him!!

(ALADDIN gets away and runs into JASMINE as he starts to jog away)
ALADDIN
Oh, sorry about that… (JASMINE continues on her way)
(holding out the apple to JASMINE) Hungry?
JASMINE
(walking away) You stole that, no doubt.
ALADDIN
(chases after her, stops her, and offers the apple again)
Well… the way the sultan taxes his people, we have no choice but to
steal.
JASMINE
I don’t thik you are right, and…
And do you always give away your stolen goods?
ALADDIN
Only to the less fortunate… or in your case, the more beautiful!
I think I’m in love....
(JASMINE starts to walk away again)
ALADDIN
You can't escape on an empty stomach!
JASMINE
(turning around) What makes you think I'm trying to escape ?…
(ALADDIN gestures at her disguise)
ALADDIN

JASMINE
(takes the apple) You're very kind.
ALADDIN

ALADDIN

(they try to run, but are caught by the GUARDS)
GUARD 2
( Stopping them from the other side ) There's no sense in running, boy,
you are surrounded!
GUARD 3
(takes the apple from JASMINE) And it looks like he's got an accomplice!
ALADDIN
Hey! She didn't do anything! It was my fault! She's innocent –
GUARD
Silence street rat!
JASMINE
Stop calling him “street rat”, he's a person just like you or me!

JASMINE

(Reveals her face) I AM the princess of Agrabah!… (the CROWD and GUARDS
fall to the ground and bow.ALADDIN, stunned, falls a moment later)

you to the sultan.

(JASMINE exits stage left)
(the GUARDS grab ALADDIN)

the princess says you are coming with us!
JAFAR
(entering from stage right, disguised as an old man) Stop everything!

There you are, my boy. Your mother and I have been so worried about you!
(he pulls ALADDIN away from the guards)
ALADDIN
And you are…?
JAFAR
Silence boy, unless you want to sleep in prison tonight
(to the GUARDS) I'm the boy's father.
He's always getting into trouble. But he's a good boy. He is just a
diamond in the rough.
GUARD 4
Ok, you're free to go. Just don't let us catch you ever again!
ALADDIN
Believe me, that's the plan. Thanks! I’m Aladdin but,,,Why did you help
me like that?
JAFAR
I’m Jafar! Of course Aladdin, one good deed deserves another.
ALADDIN
I had a feeling there was a catch.
(JAFAR shoves ALADDIN, and the background reveals the Cave of Wonders)
CAVE (year 4)
Who dares approach the Cave of Wonders? Only the diamond in the rough
may enter.
JAFAR
Don’t worry, Aladdin. I've consulted an ancient oracle. You are the
diamond in the rough. (ALADDIN moves toward the Cave again)
IAGO
Yeah! Move it or lose it, Diamond Boy!
ALADDIN
I've changed my mind about this! (he tries to run away, but is stopped
by JAFAR)
JAFAR
Go! Or I shall return you to the palace guards!
ALADDIN
But –
JAFAR

Go now! There is no time to waste. And whatever you do, only touch the
lamp.
ALADDIN
Well, here goes nothing….
(he ducks into the Cave and diappears)

(ALADDIN appears high up, walking slowly into the Cave)
ALADDIN
Only touch the lamp, got it! Only touch the lamp. Only touch the lamp.
Hello? Is anybody down there? How did I get myself into this mess?
There it is! The lamp!!!!!
(he grabs the lamp, the CARPET appears dancing from behind)
Now…. how am I supposed to get out of here? Oh, this isn't
fair! Hey, somebody! What does Jafar would need this old lamp for, it’s
dirty. Let’s try polish it a bit. (He rubs the lamp and, the genie
appears)
(MUSIC/FLASH/LIGHTS ETC. GENIE’S APPEARANCE)
GENIE
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere's Genie!! Wow, thanks kid, you have no idea what
it's like being trapped inside that lamp for the last 10,000 years, 22
hours, and 53 seconds.Do I have bad breathe???? (joke !! )
ALADDIN

GENIE
I'm a Genie! And you know what that means? You've got three, count 'em
3 !!! Really groovy wishes coming
ALADDIN

GENIE
Yeah, but before we get started, let's go over the rule book.
Rule number one! No wishing for more wishes!
Rule number two! I can't make someone fall in love with you.
Rule number three! I can't raise the dead. ( do as a zombie )
ALADDIN
Let me get this straight. You're my genie? And I'm your master?
GENIE
That's what we genies do. It's ALL we do.

(ALADDIN rises up on the other side of her balcony)
ALADDIN 2
Excuse me princess? I didn't mean to intrude –

Who granted you permission to my private quarters? (runs toward stage
right) Guards! Guards!
ALADDIN 2
(jumps in front of her and stops her) Nonononononono! I only wanted to

JASMINE 2
I suppose you're here because you're in love with me? Well, if you
expect me to believe that…
ALADDIN

GENIE

ALADDIN

First I freed you from the cave, Then I turned you into fancy prince that
was wish number two. Now all that's left is wish number three,
which means it's Genie freeing time!
ALADDIN
But Jasmine thinks I'm this big important Prince Ali. How am I supposed
to keep fooling her without you around?
I might still need that final wish.
GENIE
But you just said she doesn’t care about all that “BIG STUFF” , Sure. I
understand. You're just like all the rest. I don't understand why I let
myself get all excited. I guess I thought you might be the kind of
person that actually kept your promises.
ALADDIN
Genie –
GENIE
Ah ah ah ah ah! You better talk to the left hand, cause you ain't right!
ALADDIN

GENIE
Ah ah ah ah ah!… (he disappears in a puff of smoke)
(JAFAR enters stage right with the GUARDS and IAGO)
JAFAR
Catch him !
(IAGO grabs the lamp from ALADDIN and gives it to JAFAR. The GUARDS grab
ALADDIN and put him in chains)
JAFAR
(to the GUARDS) Bring me the sultan! (two GUARDS exit) At last, the
kingdom will be mine! (he rubs the lamp)
( the genie appears )
GENIE
Look Al, if you're here to apologize, you're too late. What ? wait ! who
are you ?
JAFAR
I believe you owe me three wishes.
ALADDIN
Don't do it, Genie!
GENIE
I got no choice, Al.
(the GUARDS enter with JASMINE and the SULTAN)
JASMINE
Let us go! (the GUARDS throw them to the ground) How dare you treat the
sultan this way?
SULTAN
Jafar! Catch him !
( the guards don’t move )
JASMINE
He's hypnotized the palace guards.
JAFAR
Genie! For my first wish, I wish to rule the kingdom! Make me the
sultan!
(GENIE grants the wish. The SULTAN clutches his chest)
GENIE
Poof… ( throwing shinny paper ) You're the sultan. We're all very
impressed…
JAFAR
For my second wish, I want you to make me the most powerful wizard on
Earth! ( talking to Aladdin )
JAFAR
You stay out of this, street rat!
JASMINE
(going to ALADDIN) Street rat? But I thought you were Prince Ali.
ALADDIN
I meant to tell you sooner or later.
JAFAR

Now…Time to say this world goodbye street rat. You are no match for the
most powerful man on the planet!
(ALADDIN escapes the GUARDS)
ALADDIN
you're not so powerful! The Genie has more power than you'll ever have!
JASMINE
What are you doing?
ALADDIN
(to JASMINE) Trust me!
JAFAR
He's right. For my third and final wish, I want you to make me an all-
powerful Genie!
GENIE
Whatever you say! (he grants the wish)
SMOKE !!!!
JAFAR
Aladdin, prepare to meet your doom! Wha… what's happening?
Aaaaaaaaaaaaagh!
(everything is returned to normal)
ALADDIN
You see, the only problem with being a genie is you got no freedom.
GENIE
Oh, Al, you're a GENIE-ous.
(IAGO approaches)
IAGO
Oooh, I'm so glad you got rid of that Jafar person. All that negative
energy! Look at me! I'm a good guy now! I'm… I'm… a whoooooole new
biiiiiiiird!
( the genie scares him away, iago leaves )
SULTAN
Thank you very much, young man !
(ALADDIN kneels and bow his head)
JASMINE
Father, I think I've finally made my decision.
ALADDIN
But you know the truth now. I'm no royal prince.
JASMINE
(taking ALADDIN's hand) You're much better. You are true of heart and
noble of spirit.
GENIE
(bawling) Awwwwwwww, Al, I'm soo happy for ya! (he blows his nose on
CARPET, CARPET wipes it on GENIE)
ALADDIN
Genie, do I still have one more wish coming?
GENIE
Sure do. What'll you have?
ALADDIN
I wish for your freedom, Genie!
GENIE
I – wha? You actually kept your promise! I'm finally freeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Free at last, free at last! Thank you Al, thank you all, thank you…
Bye bye everybody !!! ( he leaves singing.... )
