C. Lesson Proper/Discussion

.
At this point of time, we will proceed with our lesson.
I looked and found on the internet a video lesson
about the folktale that we will be discussing today.
Before we watch the video, let us first define what
folktale is.

Folktale is an old story that's been told again and

again, often for generations typically passed on by
word of mouth.

Elements of a Short Story

Setting - It refers to place or places where the story

happened.

Plot - It refers to the sequence or arrangement of

events in a story.

Conflict - it is the problem or struggle faced by the

character/s in the story.

Character - it is the person or people involved in a

story.

Point of View - is the angle from which the story is

told. It is expressed through the author's use of
pronouns, which reveal the narrator's position. In first
person, the narrator uses the pronoun I throughout the
writing. In second person, the narrator uses the
pronoun you. In third person, the narrator uses the
pronouns she/he/they/it.

Theme - the main idea, lesson, or message in the

short story that is a universal statement about the
human condition, society, or life.

Our lesson for today is a folktale from the land of the

free, Thailand. The title of the folktale that we will be
studying is “Makato and the Cowrie Shell.”

The teacher will present the video lesson to the

class and will pause it from time to time to check
for students’ understanding.
