Introduction
Fig. 1. Online survey
Having basic knowledge in using surveying applications should be the first step when
you are audience profiling. It would be best if you first learned how to construct good
surveying questions that were emphasized in the previous lessons. On the other hand,
survey questions have been modified and made advanced so that surveyors can easily
monitor, check, and collect data for their research.
This lesson will guide you by creating advanced forms for audience profiling in which
you can utilize it by having full access to a surveying application. You will be familiarized
with a specific type of surveying application and its advanced features for creating
audience profiling forms.
1
Unit 14.3: Audience Pro ling by Creating Advanced Forms Using Survey Application
How do you keep your audience profiling more advanced than having only an online yet
plain format of surveying forms? What are the features to add if you are going to create
advanced forms? What is the difference between an advanced form and a basic form?
Objectives
In this lesson, you should be able to do the following
● Differentiate advanced form creation from basic form creation for audience profiling.
● Identify the advanced features added to the survey form.
● Create an audience profiling form using advanced features.
DepEd Competency
Analyze how target or intended users and audiences are expected to respond to the
proposed ICT Project for Social Change on the basis of content, value, and user experience.

Technology has given us a more comfortable life as we get most of our needs online,
including in conducting surveys. As we encounter this pandemic, we are forced to conduct
our activities digitally and having surveying platforms is beneficial in this situation. It is
helpful because it offers the advanced features that we need. Search for a video online on
online surveys with advanced features. Below is an example. After watching a video, answer
the questions provided.

1. What advanced feature does the platform you found talk about on the video?
2. How does this advanced feature help us from creating advanced survey forms?
3. Why do you think branching is important in audience profiling?

Explain and Elaborate
Advanced Forms
Creating advanced forms is made easy with the use of surveying platforms available on the
internet. These are the features you cannot use when doing manual creation of surveying
forms. Having advanced forms will allow you to dig into your topic and your audience's
perspective.
What is the difference between creating an
advanced form and creating a basic form for
audience pro ling?
Advanced Features
Basic survey form creation may be helpful and straightforward, but sometimes you need to
add questions that might be necessary as follow up questions for the basic ones. Since
there might be additional queries about the topic, you might want to add more features in
your surveying platform to create an interactive and interesting type of audience profiling
form.
The images given on the following advanced features are screenshots from the google form
application and may vary depending on the surveying application you are going to use.
Response Validation
For fast verification, advanced forms use response validation, also known as data
validation, to avoid wrong input for each item. Usually, this response validation is used to
verify if the input data is in the correct format for a specific question. It is commonly used
for numbers or dates input. Sometimes, response validation is used if you are restricting the
number of text characters in the responses.

Fig. 3. Clicking the three dots in Google form will show Response Validation
Fig. 4. Google form response validation
Google form response validation gives the user options to check the input values. These
options are the type of character to validate (i.e., number, text, length, etc.), conditions
(whole number, greater than, etc.), and the error message shown when the respondent
gives an invalid answer.
Branching
Having simple questions will give you insufficient data to prove your research or project
proposal as the best proposal. It would be best to convince other people that you have
sufficient and valid proof that your plan is the best one. On that note, you should add
follow-up questions to your basic questions called branching. It adds accurate data through
the branching responses of the audience.

Fig. 5. Going to a different section using branching
Fig. 6. Process of branching
As you noticed with the encircled options for the choices of branching on figure 5, you are
going to assign a section where survey questions should proceed after the respondents
choose their respective age and hit next. On figure 6, it shows that when the respondents
6
Unit 14.3: Audience Pro ling by Creating Advanced Forms Using Survey Application
hit minor age, it will proceed to the “For Minors” section, which indicates a description for
minors and will no longer continue to other parts.
Adding Images or Videos to Questions
Adding images or videos to your questionnaire will make it more engaging, and it can help
the respondents express their point of view towards the topic. It will help you emphasize the
scenario you want to imply in your audience profiling. Thus, it will allow your respondents to
visualize and immerse themselves towards your goal.

Adding Images as Choices
With images, you can add it as your choices in the questions. Images can be used as choices
as it may allow the respondents to choose their preferred image. It is commonly used if you
need to know the respondents' preference towards the image prototype for your proposal.
7

Edit Response
As a surveyor, you may not want multiple responses coming from one person as it will only
give inaccurate data. Giving them the capability to edit their responses will limit their
answers according to their will and preferred solutions. The edit response feature helps
both parties lessen the hassle because it enables the respondents to double-check their
answers and promptly edit them.
Fig.10. Allowing respondents to edit their answer even after submitting their answer
Show Progress
One of the reasons respondents refuse to answer survey questions is the lengthy questions
that are very tiring. This feature allows the respondents to see the progress of their
responses. It will help them check their progress as they answer the questions one by one.

Add Collaborators
Some of the surveying applications allow you to formulate survey questions with your
teammates collaboratively. With this feature, you allow your teammates to edit, proofread,
and add more items essential to the audience profiling for your project proposal.
Fig. 12. Adding collaborators option
Basic Forms vs. Advanced Forms
Adding the above features makes a basic form turn into an advanced form but there are no
major differences between both types and their uses. Below is a table showing the
similarities and differences between basic forms and advanced forms.

Wrap Up
___________________________________________________________________________________________
● Creating advanced forms has been made easy because of advanced features
offered by most of the surveying applications just like google form.
● Advanced features offered by some of the surveying applications are as follows but
not limited to: response validation, branching, adding images and videos as part
of the question, adding images as choices, edit responses, show progress, and
add collaborators.
● Similarities and differences of creating basic and advanced forms are also given
emphasis.
