Tips for a Great Video Introduction
It may seem daunting at first, but making a great video introduction is super easy! Just follow
these steps to create on of your own:
The Script: This is what you are going to say in the video. Remember the elevator pitch that
you made? Use that for the script of this video intro and say it out loud in the video. You have
already perfected your elevator pitch in PW 7 as well as practiced it in your learning groups and
in the session too.
The Posture: It's very important that you maintain a good professional posture in the video.
After all, this is the first time that your recruiter or intended audience is going to be seeing you.
You should preferably shoot the video standing in front of the camera. Sit straight if you want to
make a video sitting down like the ones in the examples shared before. Don't be slouched or
lying down when making the video.
Frame: Make sure that the video captures your upper body. Place the camera far enough so
that your entire upper body (waist up) is visible, but not so far that it becomes difficult to hear
you. Don't try to fit the entire body in the frame as that's not necessary.
Dressing: Dress professionally. Treat this intro video like an interview and dress accordingly.
Professional dressing for men includes wearing a tie, dress shirt and a suit. You can skip
wearing the coat however we recommend that you do wear it. Similarly for women it's a neatly
pressed decent dress. One rule of thumb is to dress formal for a professional environment, not
for a wedding.
Environment: Make sure that you are sitting in a quiet place when shooting the video. There
should be no distractions in the background as it may leave a bad impression. The recording
should be such that your voice is clear and easily heard. Don't be too loud or shouting as that
does not look good either.
Delivery: Memorize the script before recording the video or have the main points in your head.
Please do not read off of something as that looks unnatural and shows a lack of interest.
No Selfie: Make sure that the camera is stable and pointed at you from an appropriate distance.
You can do this using a stand, putting some support behind your smartphone or getting one of
your friends or family to shoot a stable video of you. Do not shoot the video in the selfie mode
as it looks unprofessional. Selfie mode is also called portrait mode and looks informal, use
landscape instead by turning your phone to the side instead of holding it upright.
