ASSIGNMENT IN CULTURE AND SOCIETY IN SOUTH EAST ASIA

(Phuket, Thailand)

When I think of a place or a City that I want to visit

here in south east Asia, Phuket in Thailand, always
comes into my mind. During the outburst of the
COVID-19 pandemic, watching Thai series became
one of my hobbies due to multiple lockdowns and
community restrictions that prevents us from going
outside and being with our friends or classmates.
Upon watching those Thai series, most of the Thai
Series I’ve watched, they always shoot their beach
scene in Phuket which captured my interest.I was amazed of how beautiful Thailand is
especially the city of Phuket, I saw it not just an ordinary place but a place where you can
actually see the resemblance of our very own Palawan Province.
Phuket is no other ordinary city, it has actually a lot to offer, from their very diverse culture,
stunning temples that represent how strong their faith and religion are in Phuket or in
Thailand in general, to their mountains and the crystal clear water of their beaches.
Phuket has a dynamic culture shaped by its varied
past. The local customs, celebrations, and
architectural style all incorporate elements of Thai,
Chinese, Malay, and Indian culture. The island is
well-known for its vibrant nightlife, stunning
beaches, and customary celebrations like the
Vegetarian Festival, in which residents take part in
vibrant processions. Another thing that ignites my
interest in visiting Phuket, Thailand, is their food. I want to try their very special Pad Thai,
which is actually a stir-fried rice noodle dish commonly served as a street food in Phuket and
in Thailand as part of the country’s cuisine. It is typically made with rice noodles, shrimp,
peanuts, a scrambled egg, and bean sprouts. Seafood is abundant, with markets offering fresh
catches in Phuket due to its coastal location. Culture, Tradition, Scenery and Food, are the
main reasons why I want to visit this city. A not so ordinary kind of City.
