WOLVES
When the sun sets on the horizon, I’m in charge. I own the night,
every single animal fears me for I am the wolf. You might think I am
playful, happy, cute but I am not your oversized dog, I am a
dangerous, energetic wolf. I do not smile. I do not goof around.
Everything in my eyes is a threat. The moon is my mother, and I will
make her proud, I will sing to her every night as she shines her
illuminating light on me and my pack.
As the sun goes to it’s slumber my reluctant legs stretch slowly as I
wake up. I jog outside my cave and see the others waking up too! But
I wasn’t going to wait for them. I was too impatient and full of
energy. My slow pack is not even good at hunting. They found it
boring and only did it to survive, but for me it was a dangerous
adventure, just waiting to be found. My legs felt like they were
trapped in a cave and when I ran, I let them free. A whole forest! So
many animals! Too many things to do but firstly I was hungry. The
forest was full of trees that reached up until the sky, bush flowers,
leaves that drop drops of dew, fields with endless plains and flowers,
crickets chirping and hopping around in delight. When I reached a
field there laid a herd of gazellas; each one full of tenderness and all I
had to do was get one. I lower my body into the grass trying to be as
quiet as possible.
I get close enough but then suddenly my sister spotted me and
shouted ‘hey sis! What are you doing? Can I help?’ When the gazellas
saw me and my sister, they galloped away into the distance. I turn my
head to my sister and pounced onto her. ‘HOW DARE YOU! I WAS
SO CLOSE TO GETTING THE GAZELLAS BUT THEN YOU
JUST HAD TO COME ALONG AND RUIN THIS FOR ME
BECAUSE IF THAT WAS WHAT YOU WERE TRYING TO DO I
GIVE IT A TEN OUT OF TEN!’. I scratched, slapped and punched
her till she bled. She whimpered in pain and ran away. She deserved
it.
As I look out to some other food, I see a lone deer. The downside was
she was among the trees where I could not hide. My plan was to sneak
behind her and pounce onto the deer. I creep slowly trying not to step
onto anything and I pounce biting the neck until she was still. Then I
gobbled the rest up, starting by the stomach where all the juicy bits
were. I walked through the forest and realised I was all alone.
My friends would usually go hunting with me but either got hunted
or captured by those treacherous humans. Why did they want us
anyway? We didn’t do anything to them. The hundreds of trees
around me swayed as if they were saying ‘we have more friends than
you do.’. I felt something I hadn’t really felt before. It was a mixture
between loneliness, sadness and regret. I wondered to a pond where
the reflection of the stars and moon can be seen. My mother said that
stars were actually our friends and family that had passed away. I
wondered were my friends and family up there too? I look down into
the pond where I saw me and my friends and family all smiling at me,
I smiled back too. I knew they weren’t there in real life. I splashed the
pond and only saw my own reflection. All by myself. I had never felt
so lonely, so cold and miserable in my entire life. In regret I howl to
the moon and stars many times until my throat hurt. I sigh, my sister
was my only family left and I treated her so badly. Sooner or later, I
might be the last one of my family. I was determined to make amends
with her.
I ran out into the forest, calling for my sister. ‘Sister! Sister!’ I
shouted until I heard a howl leading me to the west. I knew where she
was. She was outside our territory, she got taken by Abadon our
enemy. He was sinister and cruel, anything in his path would get
destroyed. But I had to get my sister back, if it is the last thing I do. I
rounded up the rest of my pack and stormed into Abadon territory. It
was a small territory so it would be easy to find my sister. I wasn’t
scared, I was filled with rage from my paws to the tip of my ears. I
called out to my sister and heard a loud response; she must be close. I
saw her, her paw was injured (probably by me) she couldn’t move.
The pack and me lifted her up and ran back to our own territory.
I apologised to her. I was mean, annoying and unforgiving to her. I
should’ve been nicer. She was forgiving and forgave me. From then
on, I waited for my pack no matter how slow they were. And made
tons of memories I will never forget. As the sun raised, I curl into a
little ball in my cave. My sister was sleeping in the other corner in the
cave. I invited her to sleep with me, she accepted. I made more friends
in my pack, from then on, I wasn’t alone anymore.
