Questions in Section A carry 2 marks each, questions in Section B carry

1. In the addition shown below, the letters A, B, C and D represent digits.


All seven digits are different. What is the sum of A, B, C and D?

At most 6 people live in two neighbouring houses.
What is the largest number of people living in all the houses along this street?

6. An athlete is training for a marathon. The athlete runs a certain distance per training session.
There are 5 sessions in a week. The next week, the running distance per session is
increased by 2.4 km. By the end of the first two weeks, the athlete ran a total of 60 km since
the start of the training. What was the running distance per session in the first week?
(Give your answer as a decimal.)

7. A night train is scheduled to leave the station at 20 59.


It takes 2 hours and 47 minutes to arrive at its destination.
If the train leaves 15 minutes late, at what time does it arrive at its destination?

8. A group of people are seated equally spaced in a circle.


The people are numbered in order around the circle from 1 up to the last person.
Person 27 is the same distance away from Person 6 as from Person 14.
How many people were there in the circle?

9. We have three separate transparent square sheets, each printed with a pattern, as shown
below. Only the black areas are opaque. The white areas are transparent.

Each sheet may be rotated but not flipped over. Then the three squares are placed exactly
on top of each other. What least possible fraction of the new overlapped square is black?

10. Jay’s mother gives Jay a sum of money to buy some apples at the fruit shop. With that sum
of money, Jay could buy either 10 apples and 12 oranges or 15 apples and 6 oranges, with
no change in return. Remembering that his mother had told Jay to only buy apples, how
many apples can Jay buy?

18. There are three brothers in a family.


The product of the ages of the oldest child and the youngest child is 315 years.
The middle child is as many years younger than the oldest child as he is older than the
youngest child. The age gap between the oldest and the youngest child is not more than
12 years. What is the sum of the ages of all three brothers?

22a. This is an octahedron.

Ravi started building using 3 rods to form a triangular base, as shown in the first figure.
The he added more rods to form an octahedron with this base as one of its faces. The top
face then becomes the base of the next octahedron. Ravi made his first three octahedra as
shown in the last figure.

Ravi has 160 rods altogether, but that is not enough for him to complete the last octahedron.
How many more rods does he need?

b. Ravi builds a tower of 2022 octahedra. The top of the tower is painted red while the rest of

the tower is painted white. If the number of rods painted red is a multiple of 9, how many
more rods are painted white instead of red?
