Compliance Caseworker

In-tray Assessment Pack


This pack will provide you with handy hints and tips to support you in
preparing for your assessment.

Introduction
Congratulations, you are now being invited to attend a remote in-tray assessment for the role
of Compliance Caseworker. This assessment will be via an exam platform and invigilated
using Microsoft Teams.
This helpful guide contains handy hints and tips to support you in preparing for your
assessment, advises on things you will need to have to hand and talks you through things we
need from you too. Remember to also refer back to the candidate pack for more info on the
role itself.

Book and access your assessment


Important: You should not access the assessment prior to the pre-booked slot. Anyone
who accesses their exam before the agreed time will be withdrawn. If you open and
close your assessment, you will NOT be able to access the assessment again so please
only open the assessment when your invigilator advises you do so.

You will be invited to book an assessment time slot on CS Jobs.


We are using a platform called 'QuestionMark' which you'll access via a link in an email invite.
Users will be emailed their Username and Password to log onto the QuestionMark Platform to
sit their assessment. QuestionMark can be accessed via this link

Please use the system to log in as soon as you have been given your log in details to ensure
there is no log in issues prior to the assessment.
If users are having trouble logging in, please email
[email protected] so that your password can be reset in time
before the assessment.

On your exam day, you can access your exam paper by selecting My Assessments.

You only have one attempt to start the exam, so please don’t select anything until you are
ready to start.

Once you are ready to start your exam, select the green start arrow. Read the instructions on
screen and you can start completing your exam.

Please use Internet Explorer or Google Chrome as your browser when accessing the exam.
If you are using Assistive Technology, please use Google Chrome to access your
examination.
If you use Google Chrome, please ensure you work within the appropriate Microsoft (MS)
Office 365 applications rather than in the equivalent Word/Excel Google applications. To do
this
• download any attached MS Word/Excel documents

• open and save them in MS Word/Excel within MS Office 365.

We understand circumstances can change so if you are no longer interested in this vacancy
then please withdraw your application via your Civil Service Jobs account.
Remember to check both your inbox and junk folders, we don't want you to miss an important
email due to your email account settings.

How will the assessment work?


Invigilation will be conducted using Microsoft Teams which can be done without installing
anything when using a laptop or PC, but a free App will need to be installed when using a
smartphone or tablet.

When your interview timeslot is confirmed, you will receive an invite for a Teams meeting via
the email you provided in your application, this is your interview invitation. You should receive
this no later than 48 hours prior to your interview date and time. Please ensure you check your
junk mail or spam folder to ensure you are prepared ahead of the date and time of your
interview. You may need to access your email account via a web browser, as some email
providers do archive emails.
Depending on the device you use you will either be able to join the Teams meeting via your
browser or you may need to install the free Teams app. You do not need to have an account.
On the day of your interview please ensure you are in a location with a strong Wi-Fi or data
connection (please note video calling using data services may incur network charges).

Once you have joined the meeting you should be able to hear and see the video of the
invigilator. If at this point something isn’t working, please do let us know as soon as possible.
During the assessment please remain on mute and contact the invigilator using the chat
function only.

HMRC is not responsible for providing equipment to enable you to complete your interview.

How do I prepare?
You have been sent an assessment guide. The assessment is based around information in
this guide so please read this in advance and have it to hand to help with your answers.

Do I need any support?


Most people who have a disability are able to complete the assessment, without needing any
support. However, this is not the case for everyone. There are a wide range of disabilities or
conditions, some hidden, where adjustments may be necessary.
If you have a disability and ticked the ‘Assistance Required' box in your ap plication, your
request will be reviewed.
If you didn’t tick the box and on reflection require an adjustment at interview, then p lease
ensure you contact us on the email below.

Adjustments will be offered based on your needs and considered on a case -by-case basis.

Frequently Asked Questions

What will happen if I fail to attend my assessment?


If you fail to take part in your assessment, then your application will be withdrawn. As
mentioned previously, take time to prepare, check the QuestionMark link works and ensure
you have tested your equipment correctly before planning to start your interview.
What if I experience any technical difficulties during my assessment?
If you've followed the above advice and are fully prepared and set up for your assessment,
then all should be fine. That said if you start your interview and find you are experiencing
technical difficulties, then please notify your invigilator or email
[email protected]
If I'm successful, when can I expect to start?
If you are successful at interview, we are hoping to start making offers for the roles very soon.
This will be in merit order, starting with the applicants that have scored the highest first. You
may be placed on a Reserve List and we could be in contact with you regarding a role as they
become available, for up to 12 months.
What do I do if I need extra support or assistance (with a disability) for my assessment?
If you need extra assistance and you didn't tick the 'assistance required box' on your
application to advise us, then please email us here
[email protected] at least 48 hours before your interview so
that we can review and advise you.
When will I know if I have passed my assessment?
Once you have submitted your assessment, we will send it to an independent panel to be
assessed and scored. We will then provide the results of your assessment via your Civil
Service Jobs account.
Assessment results will be released once assessment of every candidate has been
completed, which may take a couple of weeks from the assessment closing date.
