Message DEAN from the
At O.P. Jindal Global University, world‑class does not merely signify that we have a global
faculty, global curriculum, and excellent infrastructure. Neither does it just mean that we
rank in the top 700 of the QS World University Rankings and nor does it mean that we have
been recognised as an Institution of Eminence. For us, being world‑class means that we
remain connected to our roots while we allow our eyes, mind, and heart to be open to all
that the world has offer. It means imbuing our students with lifelong learning skills for
taking on the world as it is. A world that requires people to think quickly, critically, and
creatively. Across our thirty five undergraduate programmes and twelve schools, our
students are encouraged to develop a sense of curiosity, openness and self‑reflection, to
take up social and civic responsibilities, to respect diversity of societies and cultures, while
adhering to the highest standards of ethical behaviour. Our students are also engaged
beyond the classroom‑making a difference to the local community, engaging in sports,
taking part in intellectually stimulating debates, discussions and seminars, volunteering
and speaking at conferences, acting and producing plays and musicals, organizing cultural
festivals and much more. A holistic and inter‑disciplinary education is the need of the hour PROF. (DR.) UPASANA MAHANTA

The key feature of the programme is an emphasis on study, skill, concept and creativity. Each course falls into one of these
components which run through the programme, and equip student to engage with the contemporary art world.
Study is the foundation for art creation. If traditionally study was understood as a visual analysis of the environment and
its objects through sketches, drawing and clay modelling, we expand this limited perspective to include the study of
space, colors, body, text, etc.
Skill is a matter of contention among artists and art educators. It is either celebrated or criticised by practitioners and art
teachers. We believe in the centrality of skills, but also in the need to rejuvenate its meaning and purpose. A skillful artist,
nowadays does not only know how to draw, paint, sculpt or take photos, but also to amalgamate visuals and ideas,
art‑making processes and its conceptualization.
Concept is central to contemporary art‑making. In addition to courses on art history, theory and philosophy, the students
will be exposed to the latest developments in the fields of cultural studies, critical theory and visual culture. Theory
classes will include visits to art galleries and studios, and interaction with artists, curators, collectors and art dealers,
which will give the students a first‑hand exposure to the dynamics of the art world.
Creativity binds all the segments of the programme. Study, Skill and Concept should help the students to develop their
unique visual language and artistic concerns. The courses in this segment will be dedicated to both traditional and
contemporary media such as painting, video art, sculpture, installation art, performance, digital art etc.
Eligibility Criteria꞉ Successful completion of the Class 12 examination in any Stream from an Indian or
Recognized international board (CBSE | ISE | State Board |Cambridge | IB | NIOS)

minimum of 24 credits is mandatory)
Admission Criteria꞉ JGU follows a three‑stage admission process꞉

B.A. (HONS.) SOCIOLOGY
The B.A. (Hons) in Sociology at JGU is designed to equip you with the tools and knowledge to be an effective actor in our
