"Death Note" follows the story of Light Yagami, a high school student who discovers a

mysterious notebook called the Death Note. The notebook grants its user the ability to kill
anyone whose name and face they know, simply by writing the person's name in it while
picturing their face.

Light decides to use the Death Note to rid the world of criminals and create a utopia under his
rule as the self-proclaimed god, Kira. However, his actions attract the attention of law
enforcement agencies around the world, including the brilliant detective L, who is determined to
stop Kira's reign of terror.

The series unfolds as a thrilling cat-and-mouse game between Light and L, with both employing
elaborate strategies and mind games to outsmart each other. As the story progresses, new
characters are introduced, including Misa Amane, a devoted follower of Kira, and the enigmatic
Shinigami Ryuk, the original owner of the Death Note.

As tensions rise and the body count increases, Light's moral descent becomes increasingly
