1. PURPOSE
The purpose of this method statement is to establish general guidelines for instrumentation
cabinet/panel/rack/JB installation in order to assure that the works are in compliance with project
design, drawings and specifications for Jafurah Utilities, Sulfur and Interconnecting Systems
Project, Saudi Arabia.
This procedure is intended to be a master guide that included most possible activities with the
instrumentation cabinet, panel, rack & JB in accordance with SAUDI ARAMCO Engineering
Standards, Drawings and mandatory requirements.

2. SCOPE OF WORK

This specification covers the general requirements for the instrumentation cabinet, panel, rack &
JB procedure for Jafurah Utilities, Sulfur and Interconnecting Systems Project, Saudi Arabia.

3. DEFINITIONS

This definition is referred to all related applicable references to instrument instrumentation cabinet,
panel, rack & JB installation procedure relevant to SAUDI ARAMCO standards and specifications.

4.2 Instrumentation Manager / Engineer

• Delivering the documentation and materials to the Subcontractor.

• Checking the adequacy of Subcontractors’ personnel, equipment and promoting any

required actions necessary to achieve the construction targets.

• Implementation and supervision of work activities.

• Notification to Quality Group (SAUDI ARAMCO & Contractor) for Inspection.

• Taking part in the definition of any corrective actions required ensuring the correct

resolution of the non-conformity.

4.3 Instrument Supervisor and Foreman

• Execution of the all the related works as per this method statement

4.4 Quality Manager

• Controlling the overall QA/QC activities

4.5 Quality Supervisor

• Ensures supervision and coordination of quality control activities on construction and

erection work carried out by CONTRACTOR or Sub-Contractors for the specialist

disciplines within his area of responsibility

• Ensures the performance of supervisory activities, inspection and technical assistance

for the operations pertaining to the relevant construction discipline

6. Procedure For Instrumentation Cabinet, Panel, Rack & Junction Box


Installation
6.1 General Requirements

6.1.1 Safety signal visibly posted in the working area specially working at confined space
where barricade should be provided to prevent entering.
6.1.2 Construction works shall be coordinate with SAUDO ARAMCO and confirmed with
SAUDI ARAMCO.

6.1.3 Toolbox talk will be held before start of work each member has to the responsibility of
ensuring the safety of this activity involved, especially while performing any modification
works.
6.1.4 Emergency contact numbers shall be posted, and any damage facilities shall be
reported immediately.

6.1.5 Instrumentation cabinet, panel, rack and junction box locations shall be selected as per

IFC design & applicable site conditions with importance to consideration of requirements
for functional Operation and maintenance. It shall be installed at full unobstructed
access, which can be verified with Operations to avoid any relocation of JB’s structure.
6.1.6 Instrument panel/rack and junction box shall be located to allow the performance of routine
services with unobstructed access. Clearance shall be provided for the opening of doors,
enclosures.

6.2 Instrumentation Cabinet/Panel/Rack installation

6.2.1 It covers installation work of the Cabinet, panel and rack which is composed of the
following sub- categories as per type of material.
PCS (DCS, ESD, MPS, CCS, BMS & etc.)
a) Console with Stations (Engineering, Operation, Supervisor, OTS, EMTS & PIB)

6.2.2 Panels and racks shall be installed in safe location

6.2.3 The base shall be leveled after positioning


6.2.4 All Cabinet/Panel/Rack shall be fixed on Steel Frame Support with appropriate fasteners
as per manufacturer instruction. Frame support detail will be shown in Room layout
drawing or TD-557143-001 Instrument Mounting Detail. Steel Frame Support will be
located inside of building or on the Platform or on the Concrete Foundation.
Cable Entry of Field installed Cabinet/Panel/Rack will be finished with gland plate &
appropriate cable gland.
Cabinet which will be installed inside of building (non-hazardous area), will be installed as
shown in <FIG.A & B>, <Sample Construction> for easy Maintenance
- Bottom plate will be cut for cable route
- Protection rubber for cutting edge
- Fix cable with cable tie
- Sealing with compound seal

6.2.5 Appropriate protection shall be provided to finish floor, walls and other equipment to
prevent accidental damage during the works.
6.2.6 After installation of cabinet channel base or raised floor, the control room and equipment
room shall be swept and vacuum cleaned to remove all foreign materials and dust around
all equipment.
6.2.7 The Cabinet/panel and/or rack shall be covered with plastic cover for protection against
damage and dust.
6.2.8 Console equipment and instrument panels shall be installed in accordance with vendor’s
recommendation
6.2.9 After completion of the installation for cabinet or panel, console, the periodically visual
checking will be done in order to monitor the status of the equipment.

6.3 Junction Box Installation


6.3.1 The Junction Box will be located in easy access way according to approved construction
drawings.

6.3.2 When a JB is installed on the column, the C-channel supports shall be fully welded or
fastened by HILTI stud bolt on main steel structure.

6.3.3 A Junction Box shall be installed with sufficient spacing between them and other
facilitate to keep easy maintenance.

A Junction Box will be tightened by machine bolt & nuts which is shown in
INSTRUMENT MOUNTING DETAIL.

Junction Box Support will be fixed on Concrete by anchor bolt as shown in <FIG. C>

Cable Gland System will be applied to Junction Box and Details will be described in
Classified Hazardous Area Locations Cable Gland/Seal & Conduit Seal Installation”
which is covered by JUS-ICS-CI-PD-7009 (Schedule Q ATTACHMENT IV - Clause 2.1 –
Exhibit A – Electrical, Instrumentation & Communications Discipline Processes)

6.3.4 After finishing cable termination, the Junction Box shall be covered with plastic film or
plywood for protection against damage and dust until pre-commissioning stage.

7. Inspection and testing

• Upon completion of the installation, HEC&HDEC field engineer in coordination with QC


shall notify Employer’s engineers to conform all the required inspection to assure that all
requirements are met.
• All inspection and testing shall be performed in accordance with the inspection and test
plan.

8. SAFETY
The ARAMCO Safety regulation and CONTRACTOR’s HSE Plan for safety of personnel and
equipment shall be strictly followed. All personnel shall be fully aware of these safety regulations,
and the arrangements for first aid, medical facilities, fire-fighting equipment and general
emergencies. The instrumentation cabinet / panel / rack / JB installation works shall be carried
out in a safe manner, with qualified staff and technicians, fully adopting the project safety
procedures.
