EMCP 4 Advanced Features
• Overcurrent protection curve selection
– Thermal Damage Curve
• (Real) Load Histograms
• Basic Programmable Logic Control (PLC)
function
• Set point selection for Standard / Complex
software
• Basic Automatic Transfer Switch Control
• Inducement Override

Page 5
Feature: Overcurrent Protection

• An enhanced overcurrent detection algorithm

• Allows the user to configure how much overcurrent

is allowed (time based approach) before triggering
an overcurrent event

• Functions in conjunction with the existing (definite

time) overcurrent algorithm

• An event can be generated from either algorithm

Feature: Real (kW) Load Histogram
• Why? Monitor asset utilisation

• Tracks the amount of time the generator percent

kW is within predefined ranges:

• X<30%
• 90%X<100%
• 100%X<110%
• 110%<X

Feature: Integrated PLC Feature
EMCP 4 includes many of the features of a PLC
• Custom logic functions
• Read controller Inputs / Drive Controller output

Page 17
Why PLC functionality?
Examples of PLC functionality:
• Switch in a small load bank when load is <25% and
switch it back out again once load > 35%

• Using a thermometer via an analogue input, start the

set when temperature drops below a threshold.

• Start the set when the battery Voltage drops below a

threshold and run it for a couple of hours to top off the
battery.

The PLC also has access to inputs / outputs and

information from other software blocks in the control such
as Battery Voltage or Rated kW

Page 18
Feature: Complex Software
• Standard & complex EMCP 4.4
Utility
software integrated into
one flash file
– Complex features enabled
with “Generator Set Control
Software Type” setpoint
• Base Load G
– Unit is controlling load to a
desired base load level;
typically in parallel to
Utility/mains Breaker status (a/b)
– Monitors status of externally
controlled utility breaker
• Multiple Rating Groups
• Fuel Unload
Distribution Switchgear/Switchboard (by others)

Page 19
Feature: Basic ATS Functionality (EMCP 4)
• Changes power source
between Utility & Generator Utility EMCP 4.2B/4.3/4.4

• Monitors condition of the

Utility Sensing
Utility via digital input (Loss (by others)

of Utility)
• Automatically starts the
generator & transfers to
G
generator power upon utility
failure
– Transfer can also be
manually initiated (digital
input, display, or SCADA)
• Ability to control gen and
utility contactors via a
contactor close command Distribution Switchgear/Switchboard (by others)
signal

“Loss Of Utility”
EMCP 4.4
• At least one unit on MGDL must Utility
have digital input (DI) configured
Utility Sensing
• If ANY unit has DI activated, entire (by others)
system will transfer to emergency
mode.
• Input must be inactive on all units
for system to transfer back to
G
normal

“Generator to Utility Transfer Delay

Bypass.”
• Any number of units on MGDL can
have DI configured
• Transfer to utility will be attempted
immediately if any unit in the system
is signaled to transfer
Distribution Switchgear/Switchboard (by others)

Page 21
Inducement Override
• Federal regulations require
inducement shutdowns for Tier 4
Certified product
• In June 2016, EPA issued notice of
inducement override allowance for
stationary engines in emergency
situations
• Code added to the EMCP 4.3/4.4 to
support running in an emergency
situation even if the generator set is
not meeting emissions
– activated based on signal from the ADEM
• Override is time limited and requires
paperwork to the EPA to reset alarm
– Requires supply of factory reset
– Password protected M0076598

Page 22
Feature: Aftertreatment Monitoring

The listed monitoring points are not

available with all engine models. OMM
for individual engine platform should be
consulted for details.

Page 23
Additional Feature Enhancements

• Custom analog maps

• Total kWh, Total kVArh, Trip kWh, and Trip kVArh
• Additional programmable kW Relay Trip (#3)
• Default Overview Screen
• Customer Programmable Display Screen feature
– Building up of custom screens
– Recordable data required for reporting
• Configurable security level feature
