ADMISSION NOTIFICATION FOR UNDERGRADUATE COURSES

ACADEMIC SESSION 2023 -2024

GENERAL GUIDELINES

Admission will be in online mode. Applicants are not required to visit the college
campus for admission purpose. All information pertaining to this will be available
in our website https://seramporecollege.ac.in/

Admission will ordinarily be IN ORDER OF MERIT. But the College Governing


Body reserves the right to use discretion in cases involving the interest of the College.

ADMISSION WILL BE PROVISIONAL AND SUBJECT TO CONFIRMATION


AFTER VERIFICATION OF DOCUMENTS BY COLLEGE AUTHORITY WHEN
STUDENTS REPORT FOR CLASSES IN DUE COURSE.

APPLICATIONS ARE SOUGHT FOR :

1. Semester wise Four-year B.Com. (Honours or Honours with Research) Courses


of studies (under Curriculum & Credit Framework, 2022) as per University of
Calcutta notification no. CSR/06/2023 dated 23rd June,2023).
2. Semester wise Three-year B.Com Courses of studies (under Curriculum &
Credit Framework, 2022) as per University of Calcutta notification no.
CSR/06/2023 dated 23rd June,2023 (similar to B.Com. General Course )
3. Semester wise Four-year B.A./B.Sc.(Honours or Honours with Research)
Courses of studies (under Curriculum and Credit Framework,2022) as per
University of Calcutta notification no. CSR/05/2023 dated 23rd June, 2023
4. Semester wise Three-year B.A./B.Sc. (Multidisciplinary Courses of Studies,
under Curriculum and Credit Framework,2022) as per University of Calcutta
notification no. CSR/04/2023 dated 23rd June,2023. (similar to B.A./B.Sc.
General Course)

Candidates who have qualified H.S or its equivalent examination in 2023 and 2022 are
eligible to apply.

30% seats are reserved for Christian Candidates, for all Honours/Major and
Multidisciplinary courses.

3% seats are reserved for PWD (Persons with Disability) Candidates, for all
Honours/Major and Multidisciplinary Courses.

Students are admitted under Sports Category only in Three-year B.Com. and Three-
year B.A./B.Sc. Multidisciplinary courses. Admission under Sports Category is
subject to policy adopted by University of Calcutta, West Bengal Higher
Education Department and guidelines framed by the college. The college authority
will strictly follow the instructions of the University of Calcutta and West Bengal
Higher Education Department as and when notified. Candidates should follow College
website for updates.

There is NO RESERVATION for SC/ST/OBC candidates. However, they should


submit Original Caste Certificate from appropriate authority as per West Bengal
Domicile Act for the purpose of keeping records and for the purpose of Government
aid, facilities, scholarship etc (vide The West Bengal State Higher Educational
Institution (Reservation in Admission) Act, 2013).

APPLICATION PROCESS

ONLINE SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION FORMS:

Through college website (www.seramporecollege.ac.in) from


01.07.2023 (10.00 a.m.) to 15.07.2023 (11:55 p.m.)

An applicant must have a valid mobile phone number and email id. The applicant will
be contacted at the registered email address and/or mobile number.

A candidate can register only once. More than one registration is liable to be cancelled.

A candidate can apply for ANY number of courses provided she / he fulfils the
minimum eligibility criteria.

NO APPLICATION FEES

Separate Application forms must be submitted for each course.

Before filling up the online application form, an applicant should refer to


“PROGRAMMES TAUGHT” portion of this notice to know about the subject
combinations offered.

All applicants have to study AEC Courses. There will be a compulsory AEC, named
Compulsory English and an optional AEC – Bengali (MIL) or Alternative English.

A candidate applying for Four-year B.A./B.Sc. Honours or Honours with Research


Course has to select ONE Major Subject (Similar to Honours subject). She/he will also
have to select TWO Minor Subjects.

A candidate applying for B.A./B.Sc. Multidisciplinary Course has to select THREE


Subjects, Core Course 1, Core Course 2 and Minor Course (Core Course Subjects
have to be studied for Six Semesters and Minor Course subject has to be studied for
Four Semesters). If there is no vacant seat available in any specific B.A.
Multidisciplinary subject then the college will have the right to ask the candidates to
reregister and select from available general subjects.

All queries should be sent through email to [email protected]. Candidates must


not visit the College campus for enquiry purpose. Email should mention candidate’s name,
mobile number, application id and nature of problem. Scanned copies of relevant testimonials
must be attached. Queries sent to any other email ids cannot be entertained.

A candidate who has applied for multiple Honours/Major Courses must indicate
her/his PREFERENCE (1st preference, 2nd preference and so on) regarding
Honours/Major subjects at the time of online form fill up. If a candidate’s name is
included in the Merit List of a subject which is selected as higher preference by the
candidate, her/his name will not be included in the Merit List of a subject which
is selected as lower preference. Candidates can change preference up till 15.07.2023
(11.55 p.m.). Indication of preference is not applicable in the case of
General/Multididisciplinary courses.

EDITING

Editing of all fields is possible with the exception of Applicant’s name, registered
mobile number and email id.

An applicant who has submitted ONLY ONE application form for any course can edit
her/his form up till 15.07.2023 (11.55 pm).

An applicant who wants to apply for MORE THAN ONE COURSE should check all
entries pertaining to “Subjects studied, marks obtained and Gen/SC/ST/OBC
category” and make corrections if necessary, before applying for a second course as
these fields cannot be edited while applying for a second course or subsequent courses.

Any wrong entry in marks will make the candidature liable to be rejected and the
admission will stand cancelled.

Eligibility criteria are as per norms of University of Calcutta. This can be viewed at
www.caluniv.ac.in.

No student from the VOCATIONAL & AGRICULTURAL streams will be admitted


to HONOURS/MAJOR COURSE. They can apply for Three-year B.A.
Multidisciplinary Course and Three-year B.Com Course. For students from
Vocational streams, rules as per University of Calcutta will be followed while applying
for Three-year B.Com. Course or Three-year B.A. Multidisciplinary Course.
Candidates who have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) Vocational Examination in
Business & Commerce conducted by the West Bengal State Council of Vocational
Education and Training shall be eligible to seek admission to the Three-year B.Com
Course of Studies under University of Calcutta. However, no candidate shall be
allowed admission after a lapse of more than three (3) years from the year of passing
the previous qualifying examination or discontinuation of recognized regular course
of studies after passing the previous qualifying examination.
Students from Vocational Stream applying for B. A. Multidisciplinary Course have
to choose subjects from the following: History, English, Bengali, Political Science,
Sociology or Sanskrit, Philosophy, Education, Journalism & Mass Communication.

Rules for students coming from other UNIVERSITY / BOARD / COUNCIL will be as
per CALCUTTA UNIVERSITY regulations

List of Valid candidates will be published on 17.07.2023 (12.00 noon.)


for Honours/ Major and General courses.

In case a candidate does not find her/his name in the List of Valid Candidates, she/he
should contact through email at [email protected] within 18.07.2023 (up
till 12:00 noon) together with scanned copies of testimonials in support of her/his claim
for eligibility.

Restrictions regarding selection of elective subjects (combination) in B.A.


Multidisciplinary Courses: In case of non-availability of seats in some subject(s),
students will be allowed to select ONE subject only and the other two subjects will be
selected by the college during verification.

No application will be received by the college website in advance or after the last
date and time mentioned in this notice.

The College authority reserves the right to change the above-mentioned dates and
time. The College authority will take no responsibility for admission related
information in any other print/electronic media.

Please note that mere fulfilment of eligibility criteria and submission of application do
not guarantee admission.

Admission will be cancelled if the documents are found not in conformity with the
declaration in the forms submitted on-line.

c. All the Christians candidates with parents/guardian will meet the
Principal with their complete documents for verification as and when
notified by the Principal.

PROCEDURE OF FILLING UP OF APPLICATION FORMS &


SUBMISSION OF FEES

STEP 1: Register with Applicant’s Name, Valid Mobile Number & Valid email Id.

Above three entries can never be edited or modified after registration for
admission.

Candidate will receive all important messages through email and SMS time to
time.

STEP 2: Fill in your first application form.

STEP 3: Check the filled-in application form carefully before final submission and
make corrections, if necessary.

Keep in mind that, the entries made in “Subjects studied, Marks obtained and
Gen/SC/ST/OBC category” can be edited only before you initiate a second application.

Editing of other entries is permissible till 15.07. 2023 (11.55 pm).

STEP 4: You may fill more application forms for different Honours/ Major subjects
or different Three-year Courses. But you cannot edit the entries made in “Subjects
studied, Marks obtained and Gen/SC/ST/OBC category”.

STEP 5: Take printout(s) of your application forms(s). You have to submit that on the
day of physical verification of documents after provisional online admission.

STEP 6: If you apply for more than one Honours/ Major subject, carefully specify
your preferences (First, Second, etc….) between the subjects.

ELIGIBILITY
1. A candidate who has passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) or its equivalent
Examination is eligible to seek admission to the 1st year of the Four-year
B.A./B.Sc./B.Com (Honours and/or Honours with Research ) Courses of Studies
provided he/she has also passed in English having full marks not being less than 100.
2. Candidates who have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) Vocational examination
conducted by the “West Bengal State Council of Vocational Education and
Training” shall be eligible to seek admission to the B.A. Multidisciplinary 1st year
Course of Studies taking the subjects under Humanities Division only.

3. Candidates who have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) Vocational Examination
in Business & Commerce conducted by the “West Bengal State Council of

Vocational Education and Training” shall be eligible to seek admission to the Three-
year B.Com. Course of Studies under this University.
4. A candidate taking up Honours Course in a subject must have obtained:
(i) A minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate and 45% marks in the subject or related
subject at the previous qualifyingexamination.
Or
(ii) 55% marks in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination.
Or
(iii) 50% marks in the aggregate when the candidate has not studied the subject in
his/her previous qualifying examination provided all other clauses are satisfied. [(iii)
does not apply for B. Com. Hons.Course]
However, candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe Community
taking up Honours Course of Study must have obtained a minimum of 40% marks in
the aggregate or 40% marks in the subject or related subjects at the previous qualifying
examination, as the case may be.

5. A candidate shall be allowed to take up the subject(s) under heading “A” if he/she
had passed the subject (s) under heading “B” at the previous qualifying

MERIT INDEX
1. For the purpose of determining eligibility for admission to the Major Course,
AGGREGATE MARKS SHALL BE CALCULATED BY ADDING THE MARKS
IN TOP-FOUR SUBJECTS in order of marks secured by a candidate. However,
marks in compulsory Environmental Education/ Studies shall not be taken into
account for calculation of aggregate marks. If the subject “Environmental Science”
is studied as an elective subject of 100 marks, it may be taken into account for the
purpose of determining the aggregate marks.

1. Applicants should have passed in FOUR subjects of 100 marks each and passed the
H. S./ Equivalent examination as awhole.
2. Applicants must have passed in English (at least 100 marks)
3. Applicants of Major subjects having same merit index will be ranked as per their
marks in subject / related subject. If deadlock still persists, candidate who applied
first will be entertained.
4. Candidates must have passed from a Board / Council recognized by the University
ofCalcutta.
