to improve their football and take their first
step into the world of professional football.

Even after 20 years of existence, the core

concept of ISM Academy has not changed;
finding the rarest football talents in the
world and polishing them to shine like the

Savoring a taste of hard-earned achievement yet

knowing challenges laid ahead, the Club aunched an
History
ambitious project to revolutionize the club’s youth
development sector by partnering up with a sports
management company called ISM International Scouting
Center.

From May of 1994 onwards ISM managed all aspects of youth develop-
ment at AC Perugia. In few years AC Perugia was observing and recrui-
ting young football talents through a scouting network linked to over
40 clubs in Italy. Players like Gennaro Gattuso (AC Milan), Marco Mate-
razzi (FC Internazionale) and Andrea Ranocchia (FC Internazionale)
were scouted and brought to the youth academy/first team of AC
Perugia during those years.

At the end of the 1995-1996 season, AC Perugia was guaranteed promo-

tion to Serie A (1st Div). In 2003 the club conquered the UEFA Intertoto
Cup by beating Wolfsburg in the final. During the same year the club
made it to the 3rd round in UEFA Cup.

Nicknamed “Grifo” by locals, Associazione Calcio Perugia (AC Perugia)

was about to secure a long-awaited promotion to Serie B (2nd Division)
from 8 years of exile in Serie C1 (3rd Division).
02
ISM International Scouting Center www.soccertalentidentification.com

In 2010, ISM made a choice to improve the quality of academy edu-

cation and player career paths by changing its’ technical partner
from Ascoli to Empoli Football Club. Empoli is one of the most
respected Italian clubs with a strong tradition of youth development
alongside Atalanta, Roma and Juventus. Year by year the number of
academy athletes increased and reached 70 to 80 residential athle-
tes by the end of 2015.

Today ISM International Scouting Center is a recognized football aca-

demy by CSEN (Centro Sportivo Educativo Nazionale: www.csenperu-
gia.com). The ISM Talent Identification Program is a consolidated aca-
demy program which benefits from over 20 years of professional youth
development expertise and player career management expertise of
Sportx. Athletes are no longer tied to one club but are best guided to a
well-structured club where they can kick-start or further their profes-
sional football career though an extensive network of Sportx with clubs
in Italy and the rest of the world.

After unexpected bankruptcy of Associazione

Calcio Perugia (AC Perugia) in 2005, ISM establi-
shed an official partnership with Ascoli Calcio
playing in Serie A (1st Div) at that time. Ascoli and
ISM jointly created the Ascoli Soccer Academy for
14 to 20-year-old athletes. Based in Perugia, the
academy served as Ascoli’s athletic evaluation
center as well as a residential academy where
young foreign athletes can improve their football
through a distinct athletic development pro-
gram supervised by Ascoli without compromi-
sing their academic development. This philo-
sophy of distinguished professional football
instruction and finest academic instruction is still
at the heart of ISM International Scouting Center.

The football trainings are a whole new level compared to what I got in the US. My favorite
part of it are the coaches. They’re approachable and will help you develop the best they
know and can even if it takes a bit longer to get. In order for a player to develop really well
coaches need to be great. My favorite part about the training are all the different technical
drills we do. Overall the academy experience is amazing. It’s brought something new into
my life. And I’m glad I took the opportunity to go to Europe".

“Teaching to young students make me happy and proud,
it’s a charming job who makes me responsible and let me
grow with them. Teaching italian doesn’t mean only work
with grammar but to share my own culture with the
students, preparing them for a colletive work useful for
their future”

Annalisa Boni
Principal of the Convitto Nazionale
Principe di Napoli Assisi
“It is our pleasure to collaborate with ISM Academy’s pro-
gram. The presence of foreign athletes of ISM Academy
at our school has stimulated the learning of our Italian
students. I believe that this international learning envi-
ronment based on mutual respect, empathy and thirst
for knowledge is going to greatly benefit all our students
now and in their future.”

Università

“Founded in 1925, the University for Foreigners of Perugia
is the oldest and most prestigious national institution
involved in teaching and research activities as well as in
the diffusion of the Italian language and civilization in all
of its expressions. Every year the University attracts
thousands of students from all over the world.
By attending the courses, ISM Academy athletes will
improve their Italian language skills and they will
have the opportunity to make friends with other University Program
students.” For the athletes who have finished the secondary education, ISM Academy
offers intensive Italian language lessons in partnership with the University for
Foreigners (Università per Stranieri di Perugia), the oldest and most
prestigious Italian institution known for teaching, research and diffusion of
the Italian language.

Each athlete’s Italian linguistic capacity is examined upon arrival.

Then, the athletes are assigned to a group that corresponds to his language
level. There are 6 levels of Italian language learning and the university offers
an official certificate called “Certificato di conoscenza della Lingua Italiana
(CELI)”, recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education and Italian institutions
in the world, after successful completion of each study unit. Lessons take
place on the University campus Monday to Friday from 9 am to 12 noon.

Good Italian language capacity is essential in furthering athletes’ professional
