Crown Two Pack Epoxy Coal Tar Composition

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Type: A twin-pack, epoxy resin-based coating cured with modified amine

Uses: Suitable for INTERIOR use to provide an attractive high gloss and durable, chemical and
water-resistant finish. Not to be used for overcoating previously single pack varnished surfaces
unless all varnish coatings have been removed.

Substrates: Suitably prepared and primed metal, concrete, fiberglass, plastic and woodwork in
chemical plants, laboratories, hospitals, dairies, breweries, food factories, bottling plants etc, and
for general use in high traffic areas in public buildings. An ideal industrial finish for coating
wooden and metal furniture, machinery and other manufactured items.
Advantages: Hard-wearing. Excellent chemical, water, scratch, stain and abrasion resistance.
Good flexibility and high resistance to impact and abrasion. Resistance to spillage or splashes of
mild chemicals. Able to withstand dry heat of up to 100oC and 120oC degrees C intermittent
Conditions during application; The temperature of the substrate should be minimum 10°C
and at least 3°C above the dew point of the air, measured near the substrate. Good ventilation is
usually required in confined areas to ensure proper drying. The moisture content in the
substrate should not exceed 3% (by weight). The coating should not be
exposed to oil, chemicals or mechanical stress until fully cured.

PRODUCT DATA:
Colour Range: Available in White, Black, Clear & limited shades from Crown Industrial shade
card

Pack Sizes: 1 litre and 4 litres

Finish: Gloss

Volume solids: 50% (based on ASTM D2697)

Thinner & equipment cleaner: Two pack Epoxy Thinner

Mixing/ Dilution Ratio: 3:1:1 by volume Base Paint: Hardener: Two Pack Epoxy Thinner. This
may be varied according to application method; less for brush and more for spray as required.
Base and hardener should be mixed together thoroughly and allowed to stand for 15-20 minutes
before application. Then add Crown Two-Pack Epoxy Thinners to required viscosity.

Pot-life: Approximately 8 hours. Due to the limited “pot life” of the mixed material, care should
be taken to avoid mixing more material than can be used within the working day.

Drying Times: Surface dry in 2 hours, re-coatable in 14 hours. Attains maximum hardness 7
days after application

D.F.T.: Min. 25 microns. Max. 35 microns.

Chemical resistance: Resistant to chemical fumes and splashes, acids, alkalis.

Precautions:
1. Do not apply when ambient temperatures are below 10 oC
2. To avoid shade variation, especially for projects, ensure that batch numbers match or blend different
batch numbers prior to applying
3. Mix base and hardener strictly in accordance with the mixing ratios indicated above. Stir well and allow
to stand for 15-20 minutes before use. Thin the 1st coat up to 20% with Crown Thinner for 2-Pack Epoxy
to ease brushing and to improve adhesion with the floor screed.
4. Stir paint thoroughly before use and intermittently during use to avoid settling
5. Avoid applying heavy coatings above 35µm DFT to prevent wrinkling
6. Ensure the substrate is completely dry as moisture will react with the 2-pack Epoxy Enamel and produce
a milky appearance.
7. When coating new and sanded parquet wood block floors, ensure that all surface dust and contamination
is completely removed prior to coating. It is recommended that dust from the floor surface and between
the timber joints should be removed a few minutes before coating using a brush and then a cloth dipped
in the Two Pack Epoxy Thinner.
8. To obtain a smooth finish, each coat must be rubbed down with fine sandpaper, preferably using fine
waterproof abrasive paper. Wipe clean before overcoating.
9. To obtain a smooth, high-gloss finish, the application of several thin coats is recommended. Do not apply
too thickly and avoid over brushing.
10. Avoid the use of cheap solvents as these may affect gloss or drying time
