Water
HGM-RO. Multitec-RO.
Trusted Power in Seawater Desalination.
2 Introduction
3
Quality that performs.
Drinking water is vitally precious. In
many parts of the world, the only way
to provide sufficient affordable supplies
is by extracting it from salt water.
For decades, KSB has led the way
in innovative and efficient seawater
desalination by reverse osmosis.
Our high-pressure ring-section pumps
meet the demands of non-stop operation
in plants of all sizes.
KSB provides solutions for the entire
desalination process – from seawater feed
right through treatment and on to piping
the extracted water.
4 Applications
We’ve done it before, and
we keep on innovating.
Innovative technology from KSB has generated decades of efficient n On-site service
solutions in RO. And as you’d expect, we’re on call for customers
with comprehensive service and a broad range of products in n Test field, engineering and model testing to customer specs
this area, too. at our headquarters in Frankenthal
n All-in pressure boosting and energy recovery systems: n A ll pumps and valves required for the desalination
- High-pressure pump, pressure exchanger, booster pump process, such as:
- High-pressure pump, motor, turbine - P umps for pre-treatment, post-treatment and purification
processes
n E ngineering package combines pump and intake - P umps for water transport
structure optimisation - Valves for all shut-off and control duties
Good value, effective, unique: SalTec – desalination that makes special sense.
The hydraulic SalTec System increases pressure and
recovers energy. It efficiently rounds off the KSB range
of components for RO desalination. And significantly
reduces the cost of water.
Components that match each other perfectly:
n K SB’s SalTec DT pressure exchanger
n K SB’s HGM-RO/Multitec-RO high-pressure pumps
n K SB’s RPH-RO booster pump
Membranes are not included in the scope of supply.

6 Product
The individual solution to the toughest
demands: HGM-RO.
Our high-pressure HGM-RO pump is top of the range – and on
top of even the toughest conditions.
We developed the HGM-RO specifically for reverse osmosis.
This pump stands up to all the demands which that process
puts on it.
As seawater is such a difficult medium, we planned its construc-
tion with duplex steel. And we gave the HGM-RO a compact
design that perfectly masters huge osmotic pressures. Starting
the pump puts minimum demands on membrane and material.
Top HGM-RO quality enables round-the-clock production of
more than 30,000 m3/day per desalination train. Continuous
optimisation ensures the best possible efficiency and low energy
consumption. Very smooth operation, increased service lives and
easy maintenance are further hallmarks of this premium pump.
HGM-RO meets the highest demands – and is top choice for
seawater desalination.

14 Quality Assurance
First-class results demand
first-class materials.
What really matters in high-pressure pumps? As designers, makers
and suppliers, we know it’s the quality of the materials. We have
over 30 years’ experience in this area, and invest more than
¤ 20 million annually in Research & Development. Which is why
we lead the way in innovative duplex design.
Duplex steels provide a well-balanced spectrum of resistance to
corrosion and appropriate mechanical and technological proper-
ties. That all adds up to much longer service lives for our pumps.
Benefits at a glance:
n H igh strength combined with excellent toughness
n E xcellent resistance to crevice and pitting corrosion
(PREN 36 on average)
n Resistance to stress corrosion cracking and intergranular
corrosion
n High resistance to cavitation and hydroabrasive wear (erosion)
