THE COMPARATIVE

Empleamos el comparative, para realizar la comparación, para comparar adjetivos cortos (de 1 sílaba, y
algunos de 2 sílabas) añadimos "-er" al adjetivo en lugar de usar "more":

ADJECTIVE + ER ___ + THAN

EXAMPLES:

1. Europe is colder than Africa.

2. Africa is warmer than Europe.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

3. Perú is nicer than Ecuador.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

4. The wolverine is faster than the tiger.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

5. The elephant is heavier than the cow.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

6. The dolphin is smarter than the shark.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

IMPORTANT

a) Si el adjetivo termina en Y se cambia por I. EXAMPLE: English is easy


English is easier than math.

b) Si el adjetivo termina en consonante + vocal + consonante, EXAMPLE: America is big.


se duplica la ultima consonante. - America is bigger than Europe.

c) Los adjetivos: Good, bad, far, tienen un comparativo irregular. EXAMPLE: Good – better
bad – worse, far – farther.

COMPARATIVE: MORE
Para comparar adjetivos largos (de más de 2 sílabas, y casi todos los de 2 sílabas) se usa: "more + adj. +
than", que se traduce "más + adj. + que":
