COURSE OVERVIEW
This course is an extension of power systems-I course. It deals with basic theory of
transmission lines modeling and their performance analysis. Also this course gives emphasis
on mechanical design of transmission lines, cables and insulators.

PRE REQUISITES:
The knowledge of following subjects is essential to understand the subject:
1. Power Systems –I and
2. Electromagnetic field theory.
COURSE OBJECTIVE:
1 To compute inductance and capacitance of different transmission lines.
2 To understand performance of short, medium and long transmission lines.
3 To examine the traveling wave performance and sag of transmission lines.
4 To understand the type of insulators for over head lines and understand the type of cables for
power transmission.

Transmission Line Parameters: Types of conductors-calculation of resistance for solid
conductors-calculation of inductance for single phase and three phase, single and double
circuit lines, concept of GMR &GMD, symmetrical and asymmetrical conductor
configuration with and without transposition, numerical problems.
