The high quality of VDS-3 oils allows in certain cases an increase in drain intervals.

fuel economy. VDS-4.5 delivers improved engine cleanliness and protection
against piston deposits through the use of high-quality base oils and additive
components. VDS-4.5 is available in two viscosities:

VDS-4.5 15W-40 is fully backward compatible with all older Volvo Penta diesel
engines. It is also recommended for certain gasoline engines, please refer to the

Synthetic gasoline engine oil

A fully synthetic oil specially developed for high performance gasoline engines.

High-performance fully synthetic transmission oils, specifically designed to
ensure excellent load-carrying capability over wide operating temperatures.
Provides optimal shift performance and maximum protection against wear and

Volvo Penta coolants

Genuine Volvo Penta coolants prevent freezing and overheating while providing maximum component
protection. They are specifically formulated to meet the exact specifications of Volvo Penta engines and in-
clude powerful additive technology to prevent internal engine component degradation and thereby optimize
engine life.

The benefits of Genuine Volvo Penta coolants:

• Optimal anti-freeze protection and thermal transfer capacity
• High boiling point prevents overheating
• Maximum protection against corrosion, cavitation, ageing, swelling and cracking
• Compatible with and protects all materials in the engine’s cooling system
• Does not leave any deposits in the cooling system
• Less impact on the environment, does not contain any amines or phosphates

Note! Volvo Penta provides two types of coolant: Volvo Penta coolant VCS (yellow) and Volvo Penta
­coolant (green). They are formulated for the specific requirements of different engine generations and
­contain unique additives that are not compatible. Therefore they should never be mixed. Always use the
same type of Volvo Penta coolant that originally came with the engine.

This coolant is yellow in color. It is an organic additive technology (OAT) type of
coolant specifically developed for the material used in newer generation of Volvo
Penta engines. It prevent freezing and overheating while providing maximum
component protection. Does not contain any nitrite, amine, phosphate or silicate.
Does not require coolant filter. 4-year change interval.

Note! The Volvo Penta coolant VCS (Yellow) must not be mixed with Volvo Penta
coolant (Green), nor be used in combination with coolant filter. Please refer to the
operators manual.

Volvo Penta coolant (Green)

This coolant is green in color. It is specifically developed for the material used in
older generation of Volvo Penta engines. It prevents freezing and overheating
while providing maximum component protection. Does not contain any nitrites,
amine or phosphate. 2-year change interval. Change coolant in “out of step” with
coolant filter if such is used.

Note! The Volvo Penta coolant (Green) must not be mixed with Volvo Penta
coolant VCS (Yellow). Please refer to the operators manual.

Volvo Penta paints

Volvo Penta spray and brush enamels are specially formulated to withstand elevated en-
gine temperatures and to duplicate the original factory colors of Volvo Penta engines and
drives. While helping to maintain the original appearance, these paints are intended to
provide additional protection against rust and corrosion.
Volvo Penta spray enamels are environmentally friendly aerosol products, containing no
chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs). Used in combination with the Volvo Penta spray enamel met-
al primer, the products deliver smooth, dust-free finishes that dry quickly.

against corrosion. Itis a multi-purpose premium grease and is highly
recommended for greasing joints and propeller shafts, folding propellers and all

Bearing grease
Bearing grease is a lithium complex mineral oil based grease with EP additives.
The grease is recommended as a universal grease for all ball and roller bearings
which are used at both high and low running temperatures.
Volvo Penta bearing grease has good thermal stability, which means that it can
withstand the high temperature peaks which can occur in bearings during heavy,
long-term braking. The grease also has good rust-prevention performance.

Silicone grease for crankshaft seal

Volvo Penta Silicone grease PTFE gives good resistance to oxidation, water and
high relative humidity. The grease has a wide temperature range and is highly
