Class 11th: Chemistry Monthly Test (July - 2024)

Solution Example

Q.1 What is molarity?

Answer:

Molarity is a way to express the concentration of a solution. It tells you how many
moles of a substance (usually a solute) are present in one liter of solution.

The formula for molarity (M) is:

Where:

● "moles of solute" is the amount of the dissolved substance,

● "liters of solution" is the total volume of the solution.

Q.2 What is molality?

Answer:

Molality is another way to express the concentration of a solution, similar to

molarity, but it focuses on the mass of the solvent instead of the volume of the
solution.

Molality (m) is defined as the number of moles of solute per kilogram of solvent.
Molarity Problems

1. What is the molarity of a solution that was prepared by dissolving 14.2 g of

NaNO3 (molar mass = 85.0 g/mol) in enough water to make 350 mL of solution?

2. What is the molarity of a solution that was prepared by dissolving 82.0 g of

CaCl2 (molar mass = 111.1 g/mol) in enough water to make 812 mL of solution?

3. What is the molarity of a solution that contains 5.5 g of HCl (molar mass = 36.5
g/mol) dissolved in enough water to make 250 mL of solution?

4. How many grams of NaBr (molar mass = 102.9 g/mol) would be needed to
prepare 700ml of 0.230 M NaBr solution?

Problem 1: Simple Calculation of Molality

Question:

Calculate the molality of a solution prepared by dissolving 10 grams of sodium

chloride (NaCl) in 500 grams of water. (Molar mass of NaCl = 58.5 g/mol).

Problem 2:

Determine the molality of a solution containing 15 grams of glucose (C6H12O6)

dissolved in 250 grams of water. (Molar mass of glucose = 180 g/mol).
Problem 3:

A solution is made by dissolving 10 grams of KNO3 (potassium nitrate) in 200

grams of water. Calculate the molality of the solution. (Molar mass of KNO3 = 101
g/mol).

Problem 4:

Calculate the molality of a solution made by dissolving 12 grams of urea

(NH2CONH2) in 300 grams of water. (Molar mass of urea = 60 g/mol)

Q.3 What is mole concept?

Answer:

The amount of a substance that contains the same number of elementary

particles(ions, molecules, or atoms) as the number of atoms present in carbon is
called the mole.

Problem 1: Moles and Number of Particles

Question: Calculate the number of molecules in 2 moles of water (H₂O).

Problem 2: Moles and Mass

Question: What is the mass of 0.5 moles of oxygen gas (O₂)?

Problem 3: Molarity

Question: Calculate the molarity of a solution containing 5.85 g of NaCl (molar

mass = 58.5 g/mol) in 500 mL of solution.
