Changing SSID and mac filtering
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
-The students must know perfectly about SSID
- ABOUT MAC FILTERING
-AND THEN they must change the SSID correctly
- Filtering a MAC Address on a Router
What Is SSID?
First things first: What is SSID? The abbreviation stands for service set identifier, and the
easiest way to explain it is that it’s your Wi-Fi name. Yes, it’s that simple.
But there’s more to it.
In technical terms, the SSID is the identifier that your Wi-Fi router broadcasts wirelessly to
nearby devices. It signifies that the Wi-Fi network is available to connect to. It also makes it
easier for your devices to remember networks they have connected to in the past, making it
possible to reconnect automatically when the same network is nearby.
Can You Change Your SSID?
Absolutely, and it’s pretty easy! Here’s how to change your SSID:
1 Connect to your router using a computer or smartphone.
2 Find your router’s IP address. (We wrote a comprehensive guide to finding your router’s IP
address, which covers the next steps.)
3 Open a browser.
4 Type in your router’s IP address.
5 Log in with your admin credentials. If you don’t know your username and password, try
looking at the back or underside of the router.
6 Go to your router’s wireless local area network (WLAN) settings.
7 Next to the field that reads “SSID,” type in your desired Wi-Fi name.
2 mac filtering
MAC address filtering is a security access control method whereby the MAC address assigned
to each network interface controller is used to determine access to the network.
MAC filtering is a security feature that helps to prevent unauthorized users from connecting to
your access point. You can define a list of endpoint devices allowed to connect to the access
POINT BY ADDING their unique mac address to the mac address filtering table. the access
point denies access to devices not on the list of permitted mac addresses. You can add up to
256 entries to the mac address filtering table.
Filtering a MAC Address on a Router
1 Log in to your router's admin website.
2 Go to the MAC Filter section, usually under Security, Wireless, or Access Control.
3 Enter a MAC address and choose whether to Allow or Disallow
4 Go to Turn on MAC Filtering/Access Control or similar.
5 Select Enable or Allow.
