Los adjetivos comparativos sirven justamente para comparar una misma cualidad en dos sustantivos.

El elemento obligatorio en los comparativos es "THAN" (que).


ADJETIVOS CORTOS (UNA SÍLABA)

 Se agrega al adjetivo "ER" + THAN.

 Pero si el adjetivo ya termina en "e", se le agrega "R" + THAN.

Ex: My car is faster than your car. ------> FAST (rápido)


(Mi auto es más rápido que tu auto)

The blue T-shirt is larger than the red T-shirt. ------> LARGE (grande)
(La remera azul es más grande que la remera roja)

 Si el adjetivo es corto y termina en 1 vocal + 1 consonante, se duplica la última consonante y se


agrega "ER" + THAN.

Ex: An elephant is bigger than a mouse. ------> BIG (grande)


(Un elefante es más grande que un ratón)

Otros ejemplos: hot (caluroso) - fat (gordo) - thin (flaco)

ADJETIVOS DE DOS SÍLABAS TERMINADOS EN “Y”

 Si el adjetivo termina en "y" se cambia por "I” y se agrega “ER" + THAN.

Ex: Sarah is happier than Susan. ------> HAPPY (feliz)


(Sarah es más feliz que Susan)

ADJETIVOS LARGOS (TRES O MÁS SÍLABAS)

 Cuando el adjetivo tiene más de tres sílabas, el comparativo se forma usando la palabra "MORE" +
adjetivo (sin modificarse) + THAN.

Ex: Peter is more intelligent than his brother. ------> INTELLIGENT (inteligente)
(Peter es más inteligente que su hermano)

ADJETIVOS IRREGULARES

good (bueno) better than (mejor que)


bad (malo) worse than (peor que)
far (lejos) further than (más lejos que)
old (viejo) older / elder than (más viejo que)

Ex: Mary is better at speaking English than Laura ------> GOOD (bueno/a)
(Mary es mejor hablando inglés que Laura)

Los superlativos sirven para elevar la cualidad que tiene un sustantivo y lo diferencia del resto.
El elemento obligatorio en los superlativos es "THE" (el / las / los / las).

ADJETIVOS CORTOS (UNA SÍLABA)


 Se coloca THE + adjetivo con "EST".
 Pero si el adjetivo ya termina en "e", se le agrega "ST".

Ex: The Ferrari is the fastest car. ------> FAST (rápido)


(La Ferrari es el auto más rápido)

Robert is the rudest boy at school. ------> RUDE (rudo)


(Robert es el chico más rudo de la escuela)

 Si la palabra termina en 1 vocal + 1 consonante, se duplica la consonante y se agrega "EST".


Ex: The blue whale is the biggest animal. ------> BIG (grande)
(La ballena azul es el animal más grande)

Otros ejemplos: hot (caluroso) - fat (gordo) - thin (flaco)

ADJETIVO (sin modificarse).

Ex: The Ferrari is the most expensive car. ------> EXPENSIVE (caro)
(El Ferrari es el auto más caro)
