A Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 7
Learning Competency: Explain color and intensity of light in terms of its wave
characteristics.
I. Objectives
At the end of our lesson, at least 80% of the students are able to:
a) define light;
b) identify the different sources of light;
c) explain the theories of light; and
d) state the importance of light in our lives.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Light Waves
Learning Materials: TV, PowerPoint Presentation, laptop, book

Innovative Minds Grade 7 Textbook.Diwa Learning System Inc. (pp. 252-253)
III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activity
I. Prayer
“Before we start, please stand up for
opening prayer.” “In the Name of the Father…… Amen.”
“Good morning, class!” “Good morning, ma’am.”
“Is anyone absent this morning?” “None, ma’am.”
“Do you have any assignments?” “Okay, good!”
II. Review
“Before we start our discussion, let us
have a review first of our previous topic.”
“What was our topic yesterday?” “It was all about sound, ma’am.”
“Correct! What kind of wave is sound?” “Longitudinal and mechanical wave,
ma’am.”
“Very good! Where does sound travel
fastest?” “In solid materials or mediums, ma’am.”
“Excellent! What are the properties of
sound? Give me one.” “Pitch, ma’am.”
“Great. When we say pitch, what is it?” “It talks about the highness and lowness
of the sound, ma’am.”
“Very good! What else?” “Loudness, ma’am.”
“Good answer! What is loudness?” “Loudness refers to how soft or intense
the sound is, ma’am.”
“Correct! What is the unit for loudness?” “dB or decibel, ma’am.”
“Excellent. The unit dB or decibel is from
whose name?” “Alexader Graham Bell, ma’am.”
“Very good! What is the last property of
sound?” “The timbre/quality, ma’am.”
“Correct. What is timbre/quality?” “It is the tone quality, ma’am.”
“Very good! What is the used of quality?” “It is used to differentiate the features
between two instruments, ma’am.”
“Very good!”
“Do you have any questions or any
clarifications of our previous topic?” “None, ma’am.”
B. Motivation
“I have here some GIF’s and I want you
to observe these.”
C. Presentation
“What have you observed in the GIFs?” “They give heat to the atmosphere,
ma’am.”
“Yes. Correct! These three can produce
heat in our atmosphere. What else?” “These three make us see the beauty of
our environment, ma’am.”
“Very good answer! So, what these three
produces for us to see the beauty of our
environment?” “They are all producing light, ma’am.”
“Excellent. So, based on your answer,
what do you think is our topic this
morning?” “Our topic this morning is all about light,
ma’am.”
“Correct. This morning we are going to
talk about light in which at the end of our
lesson, you are expected to define light,
identify the different sources of light,
explain the theories of light and state the
importance of light in our daily lives.”
D. Discussion
“We all know that light helps us to
appreciate the beauty of our surroundings
but what is light?” “It is a form of energy, ma’am.”
“Good! Light is an electromagnetic
radiation that can be detected by the
human eye.”
“Based on your observation in your
surroundings, what do you think are the
sources of light?” “Sun, ma’am.”
“Very good! What else?” “Glow worms, ma’am.”
“Correct. What else?” “It could be fireflies, ma’am.”
“Excellent. What else?” “Bulb, ma’am.”
“Good! Now, what kinds of light sources
are glow worms, and fireflies and sun?” “These are called as natural light
“Excellent. Why do you think they are sources.”
called as natural light sources?”
“It is because they are natural coming
“Very good! How about the bulb?” from our ecosystem, ma’am.”
“It is called as artificial light sources,
“Very good! Bulbs, light from the candle ma’am.”
are some of the examples of artificial
source of light.”
“Now, what do you think is the speed of
light in a vacuum?”
“Do you understand, class?” “I think it’s 299,792,258m/s, ma’am.”
“Do you have any question?” “Yes, ma’am.”
“Good. Let us proceed to the theories “None, ma’am.”
about light.”
“I have here a picture and I want you to
guess who is this guy who made a theory
in the 17th century.”
“Who do you think is this guy?”
“Very good! Based on the picture, what “He is Isaac Newton, ma’am.”
do you think he discovered?”
“He thought that the shadow was a proof
that light is made up of particles called
“Correct. That is why the Corpuscles corpuscles, ma’am.”
theory exists. By the way, what is
corpuscles?”
“When we say corpuscles, it is the small

by, another guy opposed to the theory of
Isaac Newton.”
“I have here a picture and I want you to
guess who is this.”
“This is Christian Huygens, ma’am.”
“Very good! What do you think is his
theory?”
“Great! Based on this picture, what do
you think is wave theory in light of “It is called the wave theory, ma’am.”
Huygens?”
“He thought that light is made up of
waves, ma’am.”
“Yes! Correct! Huygens believed that light
is made of waves and these waves are
longitudinal waves. That is why in the
picture, you can see that the light from
the source has waves.”
“Do you understand, class?”
“Do you have any question?” “Yes, ma’am.”
“Good! Let us proceed.” “None, ma’am.”
th
“In the 19 century, some scientists
conducted experiments that proved that
light can’t be made up of tiny particles.
And these experiments showed that light
exhibits properties.”
“Let us have first this one.”
“What is your observation from this
picture?”
“The light from the flashlight is reflecting
on the mirror, ma’am.”
“Correct! So, what property do you think
is this?”
Very good! Based on the picture, what is “Reflection, ma’am.”
reflection?”
“When we say reflection, it is the ability of

the picture, the light bounce back from
the mirror or what kind of thing is that.”
“Do you get me, class?”
“Do you have any question?” “Yes, ma’am.”
“Let us proceed to another property and I “None, ma’am.”
have here a picture again. I want you to
guess what property is this.”
“It’s refraction, ma’am.”
“Correct. What is refraction?”
“It is the bending of light as it passes from
one transparent substance into another,
“Very good! It also happens with sound, ma’am.”
water and other waves and by this, the
magnifying lenses etc.”
“Let us have this another property.”
“What do you think is this?”
“Excellent. Based on the picture, what is “This is diffraction, ma’am.”
diffraction?”
“It is the bending of light when it passes
“Very good! So, this means that light will through a small opening.”
still pass even if the opening is so small.”
“Who can give me an example of
diffraction?”
“The light still passes through in a small

“Do you have any question about
diffraction?”
“Okay. Let us proceed to the last property “None, ma’am.”
that they discovered.”
“I have here a picture.”
“What property do you think is this one?”
“Very good! Based on the picture, what is “I think this is the interference, ma’am.”
interference property?”
“It is a phenomenon when two waves

what you can see in the picture.”
“Do you understand, class?”
“Okay, let us proceed.” “Yes, ma’am.”
“In the 20th century, this another physicist
conducted a study.”
