ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN ASSESSMENT

Prelim Major Plate: Art Gallery

Project Theme: Celebrating Philippine Heritage Through an Art Gallery

A. Project Overview:

The Philippines is country rich in cultural heritage, boasting a diverse tapestry of traditions, art forms, and
historical narratives. As part of an initiative to promote and preserve Philippine culture, you are tasked with
designing an Art Gallery that celebrates the country's artistic legacy. Your design should not only provide a
space to showcase various forms of Filipino art but also serve as a platform for cultural exchange and
education.

Based on demographic studies and projections for the area where the Art Gallery will be located, it is estimated
that the gallery could expect to receive anywhere between 100 to 300 visitors per day. This estimate takes
into account factors such as population density, tourist influx, and local interest in arts and culture. However,
the actual number of visitors may vary depending on seasonal fluctuations, special exhibitions, and outreach
efforts by the gallery.

B. Project Objectives:

Design a contemporary Art Gallery that reflects the essence of Philippine culture while accommodating various
artistic mediums and exhibition requirements. The design should consider both functional and aesthetic
aspects, ensuring that the space is conducive to viewing, appreciating, and interpreting Filipino art.

C. Space Requirements:

Depends on the designer’s design, but should have the basic spaces.

Exhibition Spaces:
The Art Gallery should include flexible exhibition spaces to accommodate paintings, sculptures,
textiles, indigenous crafts, and multimedia installations. Consider varying sizes and configurations to
cater to different types of exhibits.

Support Facilities:
Include areas for administration, storage, workshops, and restrooms. These spaces should be
seamlessly integrated into the design without detracting from the overall aesthetic.

Visitor Amenities:
Design public amenities such as a lobby/reception area, café, gift shop, and outdoor gathering
spaces. These amenities should enhance the visitor experience and encourage engagement with
the exhibits.

Cultural Interpretation:
Incorporate elements that facilitate cultural interpretation, such as multimedia stations, interactive
displays, and educational materials. These features should help visitors understand the significance
and context of the artworks on display.
