* Color changes: To switch from one color to the other, finish the last st before the switch with the new
color. Continue working tapestry crochet wrapping MC or SC according to the flower pattern. To avoid
threads from tangling when alternating, follow steps 1-4 for each color change.
- From MC to SC: Lift SC strand in front of MC, yarn over with SC and finish the st.
Sc the necessary sts with SC wrapping MC.

BAG
Crocheted in the round, in a spiral way, starting
from the base (see chart in pages 8-9).
With MC ch 33.
Rnd 1: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook (place a color A marker in
1st st and a color B marker in 2nd st), sc 30, 6 sc in next ch
(place B markers in 2nd and 5th st), continue on the other Rnd 1, end, 72 sts
side of the foundation ch, sc 30, 3 sc in last ch (place a
B marker in 2nd st)= 72 sts
Rnd 2: From this round on, carry and wrap SC yarn. Take
it leaving a 4”/ 10 cm strand, don’t make knots. Continue
crocheting with MC wrapping SC in between the sts.

Relocate A marker in the 1st st of every rnd and B markers
in the middle st every time you make 3 sc in one st.
This will make counting sts and rounds easier.

Rnd 7-54: Continue crocheting over 112 sts by follo-

Rnd 55: Sc 14 by following the charts to reach
the fold of the bag= 14 sts.
Sl st in the next st.

3”/ 7.5 cm
Fasten off.
Cut SC leaving a 4”/10 cm strand.
Weave in all ends.

HANDLES (Make 2) 9.6”/ 24.5 cm


Crocheted in the round, in a spiral way, starting
from one end. With MC ch 47, leaving a long strand Rnd 6, end, 112 sts
at the beginning to sew afterwards.
R1: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook (place an A marker and a
B marker in the 1st st), sc 44, 5 sc in next ch (place a B
marker in the 3rd st), continue on the other side of the
foundation ch, sc 44, 2 sc in last ch= 98 sts
R2: From this round on, carry and wrap SC yarn. Continue
crocheting with MC wrapping SC in between the sts.
Relocate A marker in the 1st st of this rnd and B markers
in the middle st when you make 5 sc in one st.
5 sc in 1st st, sc 48, 5 sc in next st, sc 48= 106 sts Rnd 7, end,112 sts making color changes for the leaves pattern
Sl st in the next st.
Fasten off leaving a long strand of MC for sewing.
Cut SC leaving a 4”/ 10 cm strand.
Weave in SC strands only.

Don’t remove B markers from the ends of the handle.


On one end of the handle, on the RS, starting from the
marker, count 7 sts from right to left. In the 7th st, going
through both edges of the handle to close it into a tube.
R1: Ch 1, sc 40= 40 sts Rnd 54, end, 112 sts by following the leaves pattern
Fasten off .
Weave in the ends of the seam.
Repeat for the other handle.

SHOULDER STRAPS (Make 2)


Sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL (straps in the images were
made for size S). Worked in the round, in a spiral
way, starting from one end.
With MC ch (81, 85, 89, 93, 97), leaving a long Rnd 55, end, 14 sts to reach the fold of the bag
strand at the beginning to sew afterwards.
Rnd 1: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook (place an A and a B 12.6”/ 32 cm

marker in the 1st st), sc (78, 82, 86, 90, 94), 5 sc in next ch
(place a B marker in the 3rd st), continue on the other
side of the foundation ch, sc (78, 82, 86, 90, 94), 2 sc in
last ch= (166, 174, 182, 190, 198) sts
Rnd 2: From this round on, carry and wrap SC yarn.
11.8”/ 30 cm

Continue crocheting with MC wrapping SC in between


the sts. Relocate A marker in the 1st st of this rnd.
5 sc in 1st st, sc (82, 86, 90, 94, 98), 5 sc in next st,
sc (82, 86, 90, 94, 98)= (174, 182, 190, 198, 206) sts.
Sl st in the next st.
Fasten off leaving a long strand of MC for sewing.
Cut SC leaving a 4”/ 10 cm strand.

LINING
Fold the fabric for lining in half with RS tog and press. Lay the bag flat over the fabric, lining up
rnd 1 of the bottom with the folded edge of the lining. Mark the top edge of the bag on both
sides over the fabric. Remove the bag.

Squaring with the fold of the fabric, draw straight lines from the marks down, on both sides.
Then draw a straight line across the two points.

Cut out the lining, adding a 1”/2.5 cm allowance at the top edge and a 0.6”/1.5 cm allowance to the sides.
Sew the side seams. From the fold up, measure 1.6”/4 cm on both side seams and mark.

Pin to hold the position of the fabric and cut out the lining Sew the sides of the lining only
Unfold one corner creating a triangle, lining up the seam with the bottom crease on the opposite side.
With the square ruler, draw a line across the triangle base (where you drew the mark) and stitch. Cut
out the tip by leaving a 0.6”/1.5 cm allowance. Repeat for the other corner.

Press the 1”/2.5 cm seam allowance along the top edge of the lining to the WS. Stitch all around.
Take one side of the zipper on the RS, pin and then sew with baste stitch in a contrasting color,
to one side of the lining, on the WS. Open the zipper and do the same for the other side.

Finally, machine sew the zipper to the lining. Remove the baste stitches.

Place the lining inside the bag, lining up the side seams and bottom.
Hand sew the top edge of the zippered lining to the top edge of the crocheted piece.

FINISHING
Sew the handles to the bag, by joining the open ends, 4 rounds below the top edge and
17 sts from the sides. Sew 0.8”/ 2 cm of one end of the shoulder straps just over the handles.
Sew 0.8”/ 2 cm of the other end to rnd 7 of the bag, from the base corners to the inside.
Weave in all ends. The backpack is finished.
