Time: 2 Hr Max. Marks: 70
Note:
1) The paper is divided into 2 parts: Part-A and, Part-B.
2) Part-A contains 10 questions and carries 2 mark each.
3) Part-B contains 5 questions. Each question is having two options and carries 10 marks
each.
Part- A (20 Marks)
A. What is need of signal conditioning? CO1
B. Write the names of the processes that come under signal conditioning. CO1
C. What is filtering? CO1
D. What is universal gate? CO1
E. Design AND gate and OR gate using universal gate. CO1
F. What is need of sensors? CO2
G. What is ‘range’ and ‘span’ in reference to sensors? CO2
H. Give the classification of sensors. CO2
I. Define resolution and dead band of a sensor. CO2
J. Write difference between sensors and actuators. CO2

Part- B (50 Marks)

1. Explain the process of amplification in reference to signal conditioning. CO1
OR
1. Explain how signal is conditioned using high pass and low pass filter. CO1

2. Explain the complete functioning of Data Logger with the help of block CO1
diagram.
OR
2. Explain computer with plug-in board in reference to data acquisition system. CO1

3. Explain the working of potentiometer sensor with the help of suitable CO2
diagram.
OR
3. Explain how strain gauge element is used in measuring displacement or CO2
deformation of objects.

4. The output of an LVDT is connected to a 5V voltmeter through an amplifier CO2

whose amplification factor is 250. An output of 4mV appears across the
terminals of LVDT when core is moved through a displacement of 0.5mm
from its zero position. Determine the sensitivity of LVDT and that of the
whole set-up.
OR
4 Explain the static characteristics of sensors in detail. CO2
5. Explain the construction and working principal of capacitive proximity CO2
sensor with the help of suitable diagrams.
