Earth Science 5.
Dewatering
-Cleaning the mineral with water, showing the final
Mining product
● Process of mineral extraction from a rock sea
or ore
Methods of Mining
● Surface Mining
● Underground Mining
Surface Mining
● The soil and rocks that covered the ores are
removed through blasting (using explosives)
a. Open Pit Mining
-The pit in the mine is created by blasting and drilling
with explosives.
-it is used to mine gravel, sand, and even rock
b. Strip Mining
-This mining type involves the removal of a thin strip of
overburden (earth or soil) above a desired deposit
- Used for coal, Phosphates, clays, and tar mining
Underground Mining
● Used to extract the rocks, minerals and other
precious stories that can be found beneath the
Earth’s surface
Mineral Processing
1. Sampling
- observing a population/ area with possible minerals
- Getting sample
Analysis
-testing of the sample materials
Then go back to the area, again
3. Comminution
- Once, tested it can now be turned/grained into a
powder
4. Concentration
-Evaluate and separate the mineral with not mineral
