words, phrase, clauses, or sentences

What Are Interjections?
An interjection is a part of speech used to convey or
expresses sudden feelings and emotions. It expresses a
sentiment such as surprise, disgust, joy, excitement, or
enthusiasm.

These words or phrases can stand alone or be placed before
or after a sentence.
Many times an interjection is followed by a punctuation
mark, often an exclamation point.
Here are some examples of interjections to show you how
they can be used in sentence.
Example #4: Ah, the magic show at the end was a total
surprise!
The interjection here is “Ah”, because it is expresses sudden
feelings and emotion which is realization or surprise.

What Are Interjections?
An interjection is a part of speech used to convey or
expresses sudden feelings and emotions. It expresses a
sentiment such as surprise, disgust, joy, excitement, or

enthusiasm.
Types of Interjections
Volitive interjections
A volitive interjection is used to give a command or make a
request. For example, the volitive interjection “shh” or
“shush” is used to command someone to be quiet.
Examples:
- Shh! I can’t focus when you’re singing.
- Psst. Pass me an eraser.
- Ahem. Please pay attention.
Emotive interjections
An emotive interjection is used to express an emotion or to
indicate a reaction to something. For example, the emotive
interjection “ew” is used to express disgust.
Examples:
- Ew. I’m not eating that.
- Yay! I’m so excited to see you.
- Yum! This apple pie is delicious.
Cognitive interjections
Cognitive interjections are the words or phrases used to
express a thought. For example, ‘hmm’, ‘Hmm, I don’t know
about that, ‘I see’, etc. Cognitive interjections usually need a
response from the person you are talking to.
Examples:
- Hmm, I don’t know about that.
- I see. What do you think?
- Mmm, so many things look good on the menu.
C. Application
For your further understanding, we will have a
three volunteers for each row. Row 1 will give three examples
of volitive interjection in sentence. Row 2 will give three
examples of emotive interjection in sentence. Row 3 will give
three examples of cognitive interjection in sentence. Row 4
will give three examples of greetings and parting words
interjection in a sentence.
IV. EVALUATION
Direction: Write V if the sentence is Volitive interjection, write E if the sentence is Emotive interjection,
Write C if the sentence is Cognitive interjection, and write GP if the sentence Greetings and parting words.
