Workshop Outline: Career Planning and Development

Workshop Objectives
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

● Understand the fundamentals of career planning and how to align personal


strengths, values, and interests with career opportunities.
● Explore various career pathways, understand industry trends, and identify the
qualifications and skills required for different roles.
● Identify and develop key skills, qualifications, and experiences necessary for career
success and growth.
● Set clear and achievable career goals using the SMART framework to stay focused
and motivated.
● Create a Personal Development Plan (PDP) to guide career progression and map out
steps for skill development and improvement.
● Embrace a lifelong learning mindset to remain competitive and adaptable in an
evolving job market.
● Make informed decisions about career opportunities based on personal interests,
market trends, and long-term goals.

Workshop Schedule (20 minutes)


Duration: 90 minutes

Introduction (20 minutes)


Overview of the session’s purpose and objectives. Introduction to the importance of career
planning and setting personal and professional goals. Relationship between Career Planning
and Career Development - Contrast and Synergy.

Career Path Mapping (30 minutes)


Activity where participants outline potential career paths, identifying required skills,
qualifications, and growth opportunities for their chosen industries. Participants will work
in small groups to map out their ideal career progression.

Goal Setting (15 minutes)


Guidance on setting SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound).
Participants will draft their own career goals and identify short- and long-term objectives.
Interactive Group Discussion (15 minutes)
Facilitated group discussion on the challenges and barriers to career progression.
Participants will share their career aspirations, discuss industry trends, and explore
strategies for overcoming challenges.

Conclusion & Questions (10 minutes)


Summary of key takeaways from the workshop. Participants will provide feedback and
outline their next steps in their career planning process. Participants will have the
opportunity to seek clarification on grey areas and the facilitator will provide answers.
