SUBORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS connect dependent clauses to independent


clauses. An independent clause can stand by itself. On the other hand, a dependent
clause cannot stand by itself although it also has a subject and predicate but does not
express a complete idea. Subordinating conjunctions are often called subordinators or
subordinate conjunctions. They show cause and effect relationships and relationships
of time and place.
