we should like to thank Mr. A. K. Patel our project guide at RTTC, Ahmedabad to

ABSTRACT
As we live in era of communication where all continents are interconnected now we can
make call and send our message from India to Las Vegas in instants all this is possible
due to efficient use of Transmission technology. Transmission is essential part of any
communication system. Transmission technology has long history from eighth century
BC fire signal methods used by Greeks, twisted pair cables, coaxial cables, wireless
communication to advanced optical fiber communication systems. Within Optical fiber
communication there are two standards PDH(PLESIOCHRONOUS DIGITAL
HIERARCHY) and SDH(SYNCHRONOUS DIGITAL HIERARCHY).PDH is obsolete
it has been entirely replaced by SDH.
