replicable method for improving literacy outcomes. Moreover, parents
and guardians will gain insights into supportive reading techniques they
can implement at home. By systematically examining the impact of
guided reading strategies, this research contributes to the broader
understanding of literacy development and offers a potential blueprint
for addressing reading challenges in primary education.

Methodology Data Collection Methods

Performance Data: Collect data from quizzes, assignments, and

participation logs within the guided reading sessions

Focus Groups: This was a structured group conversation involving the

Grade 4 participants who shared their insights and experiences from the
guided reading sessions. It served as a valuable instrument for gathering
qualitative data, which enabled the researchers to gain deeper
understanding, identify patterns and words they were having a hard
time comprehending, and inform the development and evaluation of
the guided reading strategy within the research process.

Teacher Observations: To document changes in student behavior,

engagement, and performance during guided reading sessions.

Data Analysis: To determine the effectiveness of the guided reading

strategy in enhancing Grade 4 students’ English reading comprehension,
the following statistical tools were used:

Raw score. as Students who are motivated to read are more likely to
engage with texts and improve their skills. This can be fostered through
providing engaging materials, setting achievable goals, and offering
positive reinforcement.

Average score and average percentage score. These statistical

instruments determined the mean scores and the corresponding
average percentages based on the raw scores and the total number of
words in each reading passage.
Intervention/Strategy The goal of this intervention technique is to improve Grade 4 pupils'
word recognition. By employing a certain technique, students can

reading, timed readings, and repeated readings. Fluent readers can
concentrate more on comprehension because they don't have to expend
as much mental energy decoding words.

Vocabulary Building: Before reading, give clear explanations of

important vocabulary words. Students' vocabulary can be expanded
through the use of word walls, flashcards, games, and context clues, all
of which have a direct impact on comprehension.

Ethical Considerations Parents and guardians of fourth-graders should get consent forms.

safeguard students' identities.
Expected Outcomes It is expected that Grade 4 students' reading comprehension abilities will
significantly increase as a result of the application of guided reading

comprehension abilities will perform better academically overall. Higher
grades and greater self-assurance in their reading skills could result from
this.
