Appropriate and Inappropriate Behavior in the Workplace
Every place of work has a different atmosphere, a different environment, a different
ethos. An efficient and harmonious working environment is created, largely, by the way
people behave in the workplace. This includes the behavior of employees, employers
and to some extent, even customers and clients.
1
How do you know what is the appropriate behavior for your place of work?
This can range from using ordinary social skills such as being polite to other staff to being
extraordinarily cooperative and helpful to other members of your group when faced with a
tight deadline.
Think about the personal qualities and traits that employers seek in job applicants. These
include:
Working well as part of a team or group
A positive attitude toward co-workers, the workplace and the tasks of the job
A clean and suitable appearance, taking into account to the job you do
Respect for others and respect for individual differences
Being on time for work
Being polite and helpful on the telephone and to clients in person
Examples of inappropriate behavior in the workplace include:
Harassment – offensive, belittling or threatening behavior that is unsolicited, and may
be repeated.
Bullying – repeated abusive and offensive behavior, which in some circumstances may
involve inappropriate physical behavior.
Aggression and Violence

Sir:
Greetings of Christian peace!
One of the goals of K to 12 Basic Education Program is to develop in learners the competencies,
work ethics, and values relevant to pursuing further education and/or joining the world of work. To
achieve greater congruence between basic education and the nation’s development targets, work
immersion, a required subject has been incorporated into the curriculum. This subject will provide
learners with opportunities:
1. To become familiar with the workplace;
2. For employment simulation; and
3. To apply their competencies in areas of specialization/applied subjects in authentic work
environments.
To achieve the above objectives, work immersion is thus a requirement for graduation from
secondary education.
In this regard, may we ask your office to give consideration to our Grade 12 learners who will be
applying for their barangay certificates by rendering this service free of charge. An official slip will be
given to Work Immersion students who will be obtaining their barangay certificates so as to avoid
opportunists.
I am hoping for your positive response regarding this request.
Thank you and God bless!
Respectfully yours,
