Other Materials: Mechanical pencil, eraser, pen, ledger paper, Texas Instruments BA II plus
financial calculator or Apple iPhone (Texas Instrument BA II plus app),
3-ring binder, tab dividers, 3” x 5” index cards, rubber bands.

Course Description: The study of Advanced financial accounting concepts and theories with
emphasis on the preparation and use of the income statement, balance sheet, and statement of
cash flows. Coverage involves the process of analyzing, processing, interpreting and
communicating the financial information to aid in decision making.

Homework:
The homework is Problem Set B for all chapters 1 through 14 in the textbook including
Appendix D, E, F, G. Students are to work with their study team members to complete the
homework. Each team will have approximately five members and the homework problems are
to be split-up amongst the team members. The team members will decide how the homework
is to be assigned. Each member is responsible for completing their share of the
homework. After a student finishes their portion of the homework they are to submit the
homework to the group coordinator and explain it to their team members. Students are to keep
track of their homework in a three-ring binder and the instructor will give the student credit
for the homework (up to 200 points) at the end of the semester. (Note: The working papers
for the homework are optional.)

Video Assignments:
Throughout the semester the instructor give homework assignments to watch videos on
www.IESEG-online.com . All videos assigned will relate to the course content or the accounting
profession.

Solutions:
Students will receive the solutions to the end-of-chapter discussion questions and the
solutions to Problem Set A.

Study Teams:
Students will form study teams. The study team members are work as a team on the assigned
homework and study guides/practice tests throughout the semester.

Class Time:
The first half of the class time will be spent on lecture and the second half of the class time
will be spent on accounting tutoring.

Safety Procedures:
Approved safety procedures are posted in each classroom and are to be followed.

Tutorial Services:
Students are entitled to 12 hours free per semester. For appointment call 651-4232 Cheyenne,
651-5732 Charleston, and 651-3125 Henderson.

Academic Integrity:
Scholastic dishonesty will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent. You
are expected to have read and understand the current issue of the student handbook (published
by Student Services) regarding student responsibilities and rights and the intellectual property
policy for information about procedures and what constitutes acceptable on-campus behavior.

Classroom Etiquette:
1. Come to class on time
2. No excessive texting during class
3. No headphones
4. No texting during exams
5. If you have to leave class early please let the instructor know in advance
6. iPhones are allowed in the classroom for the Texas Instruments BA II plus app and to
access websites that pertain to class discussion
7. Kindness, courtesy, and respect is expected and appreciated by your fellow classmates
and the instructor.

How to prepare for exams:


Study guides and/or practice exams will be given to assist the students in preparing for the
exams. The study guides and practice exams were prepared to coincide with the textbook and
lecture. The exams will consist of multiple choice questions that are both conceptual and
computational. Scantrons will be provided. Students are expected to come to the exam with a
pencil, eraser, and the Texas Instruments BA II plus calculator.

The following are helpful tips that will help you succeed in this class:
1. Come to class on time.
2. Sleep 7 to 8 hours every night.
3. Study a little every day and avoid late-night cram sessions the night before the exam.
4. If you don’t understand the material please let me know as soon as possible.
5. Studying the concepts with repetition can help you achieve long-term retention.
6. Make use of flash cards with the question on the front and answer on the back.
7. Don’t give up if you don’t understand a concept or problem at first. You will
understand the material if you remain persistent.
8. Study in groups. Social interaction will enhance and enrich your college experience.
9. Do your best and maintain a positive attitude.
