1-2 SCIENCE 1 3 60 minutes

Content Standards :
Performance Standards:
Learning Competency/ ies:  Identify the observable
properties/characteristics
of matter (e.g color,
shape, size, texture)
 Compare materials
according to observable
properties.
Essential Understanding/ key  These properties of colors, sizes, shapes and texture shape our
Concepts/ Understanding to be perceptions, interaction, and understanding of the world,
developed influencing everything from our emotions and preferences to
our interpretations and actions. By exploring these properties,
we gain deeper insights into the complexities and beauty of
the world around us.
Essential Questions 1. How do these properties influence the ways we interact with
and understand the world around us?
Domain Adaptive cognitive Process (1) Objectives
Domain (D.O No 8 s, 2015)
Categories
Knowledge: Identify different materials based on their colors, shapes, sizes and textures.
Skills: Observe ad differentiate between materials based on their properties.
Attitude: Cultivate curiosity about the world around them by engaging them in hands-
on exploration.
Values: Accountability
(2) Subject Matter/ Topic “CHARACTERISTICS OF MATERIALS AROUND”
(3) Learning Resources Pictures, laptop, board, chalk
ELEMENTS OF THE PLAN METHODOLOGY
(4) PROCESO
4.1 Introductory  Choose a student to lead the prayer.
Activity/Prayer/Checking of the  Ask the secretary to check the attendance.
Attendance/ Reviewing
Previous Lesson The teacher will ask a student to do a recap about the previous lesson.
(5 mins)

4.2.Establishing the purpose of

the lesson (5 mins.)  Learn to observe and describe the diverse range of materials
present in their environment
 Understanding the characteristics of materials enables students to
use them creatively in art, design, and construction projects.

4.3. Motivation (5 mins.) ACTIVITY: DESCRIBING

Look at these objects:
Describe each one:

The flower is ______. It is _________

The box I s ________. It is ________

The juice is _______. It is _________

These objects are all matter.

You see matter around you

4.4.Instruction and Delivery/ Objects have colors.

ANALYSIS(10 mins.)

Materials may be big or small, long or short, and thin or thick. All objects
have size. Size is a property of matter.

Materials may be smooth, rough, hard, or soft. Texture, hardness and

softness are properties of matter.

Materials may be round, square, rectangular, or triangular. Shape is a

property of matter.
4.5 Practice/ developing
Mastery (leads to formative ACTIVITY DAY 1: SORTING OUT
assessment) Instruction:
(5 mins)  The teacher will provide a variety of materials.
 She will ask students to sort them based on their colors and shapes.

ACTIVITY DAY 2: EXPLORING SIZES AND TEXTURES

Instruction:
 The teacher will provide with different sizes and textures (smooth,
rough, bumpy)
 The teacher will allow the students to explore these materials using
their sense.
 The teacher will encourage them to describe how the materials feel
and compare their sizes
 The teacher will instruct the students also to sort materials base on
size.

4.6 Enrichment/Finding
Practical Application Of ACTIVITY DAY 1: SORTING OUT
concepts and skills in real life/ The students will share their observations. They will discuss patterns or
formative Assessment/ similarities they noticed among the materials.
Application (5 mins)
ACTIVITY DAY 2: EXPLORING SIZES AND TEXTURES
The teacher will encourage discussions about their reasoning

(5 mins) Guide questions:

1. What is matter?
2. What are the properties of matter?
3. Give examples of matter.

4.9.Evaluation/
ASSESSMENT  Informal assessment through observation of student participation
(15 mins.) and engagement during activities.
 Evaluation of students’ ability to describe and classify materials
based on their properties
4.10.Assignment/Additional
Activities for Application (5 Study about solid, liquid and gas.
