OF
TRUNK SEWER LINE PARELLEL TO QILA MOHAMMDI DRAIN UNDER ASHIYANA,
SHARDA NAGAR, KANPUR ROAD YOJNA
1. AUTHORITY
This study emphasis Project of Lucknow Development Authority on Trunk Sewer Line
parallel to Qila Mohammdi drain under Ashiyana, ShardaNagar, Kanpur Road Yojna at
Lucknow is allotted to RCUES by Chief Engineer L.D.A., Lucknow vide letter no.
453/CE/2024/EE2 dated 30.08.2024.
2. DESCRIPTION & LOCATION OF THE CITY
Lucknow city is the capital of the Uttar Pradesh, was the abode of Nawabs. It is well
known for its legendry hospitality, fabled edifices stepped in history, world renowned
chicken works, cuisine & executive Sham-E-Awadh, beside open space, picturesque
setting, innumerable parks and garden. Lucknow is the noblest monuments of
human art and culture. The district is irregular in shape but fairly compact. It forms a
part of the Lucknow Division and lies between Latitude 28° 30’ North to 26°10’ North
and Longitude 80°30’ East to 81°34’ East. On the North it is bounded by Sitapur
district, On the East by Barabanki and northwest and southwest by Hardoi and
Unnao districts respectively. The urban area of Lucknow is situated on both bank of
river called cis and trans side and it is well linked by road, railway and airways
connection by rest big cities of India.
3. PROJECT AREA
The project area is surrounded by Canal, Kanpur Road, Airport, SGPGI, Raebareli
Road and Cantonment Lucknow. There are major Colonies which are contributing their
sewage load either through sewer network or through pumping plant. Ultimately the
entire sewage is presently going to the Qila Mohammdi drain without any treatment.

At Present, untreated sewer of Kanpur Road Yojna, Sarda Nagar Yojna areas is being
disposed in Qila Mohammadi Drain at several places. The drain is under jurisdiction of
U.P Irrigation Department. LDA has made several lift wells from where the untreated
sewer is being pumped to the Qila Mohammadi drain. For carrying the sewer of these
areas LDA has planned a trunk sewer line parallel to Qila Mohammadi drain from
sector-N Ashiyana to proposed STP Site. For proper pumping to this trunk sewer Jal
Nigam has already constructed a 40 MLD IPS at Sector N Ashiyana, the start point of
subjected trunk sewer.
Some privately developed colonies needs to be connected to trunk sewer. There are
two major ridge lines passing through the area.
1) Alamnagar Utaretia railway bypass
2) Shaheedpath

4. EXISTING INFRASTRUCTURE:
It is found that the existing Main Trunk Line which has been have total of 16
Manholes at present. The Main Trunk line starts from the Chungi-Parag road at
Manhole No.1. From there the Main Trunk Line moves towards I.P.S. covering
the length of 145m considering Manholes No. 2, 3, 4, 5 respectively, in which
Manhole No. 5 is being in the I.P.S. boundary, Over here I.P.S. dumped the
waste into the Qila Mohammadi Nala.
After that the Main Trunk Line is missing till Railway Line Box Culvert (Inlet has
not found) with length of 99m.
From the Box Culvert again the Main Trunk Line is missing to the length of 230m
till Transport Nagar Road, over here the installed Pump House No. 4 dumped the
waste directly into the Qila Mohammadi Nala.
From Transport Nagar Road to Mira Devi Awadh Vihari Singh Memorial School,
the Main Trunk Line cover total of 243m covering Manholes No. 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10
respectively out of which Manhole No. 6 and 7 have no manhole covers.
Again the Main Trunk Line is missing till Mansarovar Road with length of 193m.
From Mansarovar road to Omex Tiraha the Main Trunk Line with length of 1253m
contains Manhole No. 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 respectively (Most of the places
are chocked/blocked with the debris).
From the Omex Tiraha to S.T.P. the Main Trunk Line is proposed having the
length of 1632m.

a) Trunk Sewer Line: The trunk sewer starts from sector N and terminates at STP.

b) Lift Wells/ I.P.S.: At Present there are 05 Nos. mud pumping plant installed in the
length of the Sewer. These pumping plants are used to pump the sewage directly into
the nearby portion of Qila Mohammadi drain. There exists only an Intermediate
Pumping Station of 40 MLD capacity recently constructed by U.P Jal Nigam. The
pumping plants are installed at mid of meridian of road and its suction pipes are in
manhole. The details of pumping plant are given below:

5. OVERVIEW
a) The Project start from the Pumping Station 1 of Zone-8 located on the Chungi-
Parag road.

b) The exsisting I.P.S. (Dia-13.0m and Depth-14.0m) is located near by Pumping
Station 1 having the capacity of 40 MLD. This I.P.S. is used to lift the untreated
liquid and directly dumping into the Qila Mohammadi Canal. Over here we have
to attached the I.P.S. to the Main Trunk Sewer.

c) There existing railway line along the route of proposed trunk line. At present LDA
has constructed an Aqua-duct for passing of trunk sewer line.

d) After passing through the Aqua-Duct the Sewer line is not connected and
proposed sewer line of 258.0m which will connect to the Pumping Station 2
which is located on the Transport Nagar Road.

e) During the visit it has been noticed that some manholes are broken and without
cover but some are intact with manhole cover. The manholes which are without
cover are filled with garbage which needs cleaning and adequate repair along
with manhole cover.

f) After continuing further the line 182.0m length of sewer has been porposed which
will connect to the existing Trunk Sewer Line.

g) Further passing under the Amar Saheed Path the trunk sewer line terminated at
the intersection of Bijnor Road. Near this intersection sufficient space is available
for construction of Intermediate Pumping Station through which sewer can be
pumped through the rising main to 100 MLD STP proposed at Sharda Nagar
Vistar Yojna.

h) The proposed STP site is very close to newly constructed Pradhan Mantri Awas
Yojna. There is an existing main pumping station building having sump well of
depth approx 17 meter. The building seems to be very old whichrequires lots of
construction and repairing activities.

6. OUTCOME
The main outcome of the Project is to collect the sewage of the nearby
localities and get treated in the newly proposed S.T.P. located in the
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Sharda Nagar Extension, Lucknow. When
survey of the nearby localities has been done, many of the existing sewer
is directly dumping the waste into the Qila Mohammadi Nala.
It is also found that many of those existing sewer are in very bad
condition, many main holes are uncovered and chocked. Sewer line in
Sector M1 is mainly chocked with the debris. Some part of the Mansrovar
Yojna is not connected with the Sewer but mainly all the sewer is going
into the Nala.
Many parts of the Transport Nagar, Kanpur Road Yojna come to the
intersection of the Pumping Station 1, Sector N, Ashiyana, Lucknow.
The Main Trunk Line which Starts from the Pumping Station 1 and end at
the Newly Proposed STP have multiple section which is not laid.
Areas like Baba Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Ramabai Ambedkar Park,
Indrapuri Colony, Durgapuri, Omex City, Royal Nagar, Himalayan City,
Airforce Colony etc will get benefitted from this Main Trunk Sewer.
Proposal for making the main trunk sewer useful:
1) Rising main from pump no. 1, 2, 3 upto existing 2000 mm dia trunk sewer
through box culvert on railway bypass.
2) Rising main from 40 MLD IPS upto existing 2000 mm dia trunk sewer through
box culvert on railway bypass.
3) From school upto Mansarover RCC pipe of 2200 mm dia
4) Rising main from pump no. 4 (Eldico Udyan 2 near Omax Tiraha) upto proposed
100 MLD IPS at Bijnor Tiraha.
5) 100 MLD IPS at Bijnor Tiraha.
6) Trunk rising main from 100 MLD IPS to STP.

7. CONCLUSION
In line of study of the above project an inspection with surveyors, Environmental
Engineers of RCUES Lucknow along with engineers of EE zone 2, LDA Lucknow
has been done vigorously. To make existing trunk sewer line functional, following
points are considered:
1) Cleaning of Existing Main Line Trunk via Robotic Technology
2) Manholes need repair and maintenance.
3) To construct an IPS at Bijnor Intersection, confirmation for ownership of land
is required for the same.
4) Study of drain from Bijnor intersection to STP site is required to provide the
techno economical solution (Gravity or Pumping) for carrying the sewage
from Proposed IPS at Bijnor intersection to STP.
ROBOTIC CLEANING OF EXISTING MAIN TRUNK LINE AND MANHOLES
It is required to clean the existing Main Trunk Line and Manholes to initiate the working
of the project. The Main Trunk Line which is already laid is usable but in major portions
the Sewer is chocked/blocked with the debris. To connect the Head we have to use the
Robotic Cleaning, we discussed the work with the renowned Genrobotics firm for the
cleaning. The team of the Genrobotics visited and surveyed the location/main trunk line
and gives the feedback accordingly:-
Manholes have to get cleaned thoroughly.
Main Trunk Line is chocked/blocked as it is not in use and because of that a
proper machine cleaning technology which is using Bandicoot Robot V2.0.

This machine is used on a rental basis, having the time period of 3-Months.
The firm quoted the price of 21.40 Lacs for whole process.
Why to use this Technology?
In multiple places where the Main Trunk Sewer is not laid we have to connect the head
of the new sewer line with the existing which cannot be done until the already exsiting
sewer line is not get cleaned thoroughly. The head of the sewer line is around
1800mm/2000mm/2200mm which get connected to the existing main trunk sewer.
