DIALOGUE- is the most
significant part of a play. The
action of the play moves
because of the dialogue. It
also reveals the character’s
motivations and intentions, his
aspirations and frustrations.
PONTERS to Consider in Writing
Dialogues
[Link] should not talk
perfectly. People do not speak
in perfect English or Tagalog.
PONTERS to Consider in Writing
Dialogues
2. Characters should not use
clichés. The saying honesty is
the best policy is commonly
used which makes dialogue
sound dull and meaningless.
3. Characters should not
overuse character names. In
real life, people do not address
one another by always
mentioning their names
because it sounds silly and
interesting.
4. Characters should not
speechify. Avoid having
characters deliver lengthy
lines without interruption. In real
life, people usually talk
alternately in a communication
exchange.
5. Keep the theme out of the
dialogue. The theme of the play
should be naturally conveyed to
the audience through the series
of events happening in the play
and not through the dialogues
of the characters.
