Motivational Letter
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my sincere interest in the Physician Assistant (PA) program
at St. John’s University. I hold a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from
the University of Sialkot, Pakistan, and am deeply motivated to expand my
knowledge and skills by pursuing a career as a Physician Assistant. With a solid
foundation in healthcare, hands-on clinical experience, and a passion for patient-
centered care, I believe the PA program at St. John’s University will provide me
with the ideal opportunity to fulfill my long-term professional goals.
During my academic journey in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, I was
exposed to the critical role that healthcare professionals play in diagnosing,
treating, and rehabilitating patients. My DPT degree, which I completed in October
2023, provided me with an in-depth understanding of human anatomy, physiology,
and musculoskeletal health. I gained practical experience working with patients
suffering from physical disabilities, injuries, and chronic conditions, which
enhanced my clinical reasoning and patient management skills. While my
education equipped me with the tools to be an effective physical therapist, I
quickly realized that I am drawn to a broader scope of medical practice—one that
allows me to diagnose, treat, and manage a wide variety of medical conditions.
The role of a Physician Assistant resonates with me because it combines both
clinical practice and patient care, providing the opportunity to work across various
medical specialties. PAs play a pivotal role in enhancing patient outcomes by
working collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare professionals. I am
particularly drawn to the collaborative nature of this role, as it allows for direct
patient care while working as part of an interdisciplinary team. The diversity and
flexibility of the PA profession, with its potential to specialize in areas such as
surgery, emergency medicine, and primary care, align with my passion for
continuing education and professional growth.
My interest in healthcare was sparked early on during my high school and
intermediate studies. I completed my matriculation in science from Govt. High
School Jamke Cheema in 2015, where my fascination with biology and human
anatomy began to grow. This interest was further nurtured during my pre-medical
studies at ILM College for Boys, Sialkot, which I completed in 2017. Studying
subjects such as biology, chemistry, and physics solidified my desire to enter the
healthcare field. I was particularly intrigued by how various systems of the human
body work in harmony to maintain homeostasis and how medical interventions can
restore this balance when disrupted by disease or injury.
In addition to my academic background, I have developed strong digital and
communication skills that will serve me well in the PA program and throughout
my professional career. I am proficient in Microsoft Office and Microsoft
PowerPoint, which I have used extensively for organizing and presenting medical
information during my studies and clinical rotations. Furthermore, my language
skills in Urdu and English (B2 level) enable me to communicate effectively with
diverse populations, a crucial asset in a field that requires cultural competency and
patient-centered care. My ability to converse fluently in both languages will allow
me to connect with patients from various backgrounds, ensuring that I can provide
compassionate care while overcoming language barriers.
In terms of practical experience, I have attended several workshops and seminars
to expand my knowledge and enhance my skills. In 2020, I participated in a grand
workshop that covered Road Traffic Accidents (RTA), CPR, First Aid, and
Cardiovascular Diseases. These workshops provided me with valuable insights into
emergency care and life-saving techniques, further fueling my passion for hands-
on patient care. Additionally, I attended an online seminar in May 2021 focused on
major injuries of the shoulder joint complex and its differential diagnosis, where I
gained advanced knowledge in diagnosing and managing complex musculoskeletal
injuries. These experiences have provided me with a well-rounded understanding
of both acute and chronic medical conditions, which will be invaluable in my
future role as a Physician Assistant.
What excites me most about pursuing the PA program at St. John’s University is
the comprehensive curriculum that emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and
practical skills. I am eager to engage in clinical rotations across multiple
specialties, which will provide me with the opportunity to apply what I learn in
real-world settings. I believe that the combination of classroom learning and
clinical experience will prepare me to become a well-rounded healthcare provider,
capable of delivering high-quality care in a variety of medical settings. St. John’s
University’s commitment to academic excellence, its focus on patient-centered
care, and its mission to serve the community align perfectly with my personal and
professional values.
Moreover, I am particularly drawn to St. John’s University because of its emphasis
on fostering leadership and innovation in healthcare. Throughout my academic and
professional journey, I have developed strong leadership and management skills
that I am eager to continue refining. My participation in seminars and workshops
has strengthened my ability to build relationships, think critically, and adapt to new
situations. In 2020, I participated in a free online webinar that focused on
management and leadership skills, where I gained valuable insights into decision-
making, conflict resolution, and negotiation. These skills have prepared me to be a
dynamic and effective leader in the healthcare field, and I am excited to continue
developing them during the PA program at St. John’s University.
In conclusion, I believe that my academic background, clinical experience, and
passion for patient care make me a strong candidate for the Physician Assistant
program at St. John’s University. I am excited about the opportunity to deepen my
knowledge, broaden my clinical skills, and contribute to the healthcare community
in a meaningful way. My ultimate goal is to become a compassionate and
competent Physician Assistant, capable of delivering high-quality care that
