WordPad
Introduction
WordPad is a software used for typing stories, poems, letters and
posters etc.
The steps to open WordPad are:
1. Click on the Start button.
2. Click on All Programs.
3. Click on Accessories.
4. Click on WordPad.
Or
Double Click on this shortcut Icon on the Desktop.

1. Title Bar:
The blue line at the top of the WordPad window is called as Title
Bar. The title bar shows the name of the program that is open.
2. Tabs:
Each Tab contains a Ribbon with Commands in it.
3. Ribbon:
The Ribbon contains groups for each Tab e.g. Home Tab ribbon
has Clipboard, Font, Paragraph etc. groups. These groups contain
the commands.
4. Ruler:
Below the Ribbon you can see the Ruler.
5. Zoom Control:
It helps us to resize the Work Area by Zooming In or Zooming Out.
6. Cursor: The Black Blinking Line seen on the screen is called as
the Cursor. The cursor moves as we type in WordPad.

The keyboard is used to type Data. It is an Input Device.
There are different types of keys on the keyboard.
1. Alphabet Keys: These keys help us to type
alphabets, words and sentences.
2. Number Keys: These keys
help us to type numbers. There are two sets of Number Keys.
The set on the right side types the numbers when, Num Lock
key is On.
3. Caps Lock Key: If the caps lock is ‘ON’, the alphabets will
appear in CAPITAL LETTERS. If the caps lock key is ‘off’, the
alphabets appear in small letters.
4. Shift Key: There are two Shift keys on the keyboard. The
shift key is used to type special characters like ( ” !, @, %, & ” )
e.g. Shift + 4 will type $
5. Backspace Key: This key is used to remove/erase the alphabet
towards the left side of the cursor. It works like as eraser.
6. Arrow Keys: There are 4 arrow keys on the keyboard.
They are used to move the cursor in 4 directions (left, right, up or
down).
7. Enter Key: This key is used to bring the cursor on the next
line.
Space Bar
8. Spacebar Key: This is the longest key on the
keyboard. It is used to put space between two words.
