1. If an art work creates controversy or scandal it has attracted a lot of public attention and
comment. Once the public has accepted the work as having value it becomes more ‘normalised’
and so what was once controversial is now accepted and standard.

2. The art might express thought or feelings or opinions about something that is important or
meaningful to certain groups of people, such as their religion or their culture or their
nationality.

3. The picture is just a number of repeated images. The design is not original- it is a copy of a
product that already existed. The subject matter is very dull and everyday.

4. By coming up with new techniques, new approaches and including new and different subject
matter artists redefine art. The boundaries of what is accepted or classified as art are constantly
changed by what artists produce.
