Design Brief
The Multi-Purpose Sports Stadium in Chennai aims to create a venue with a
capacity of 1 lakh, designed to host various sporting events. The stadium
should feature adaptable playing areas, modern athlete and spectator
facilities, and advanced technology integration. Key design considerations
include sustainability, accessibility, efficient crowd management, and safety
measures. The architecture should reflect local culture while incorporating
flexible spaces for non-sporting events. The design must address Chennai's
tropical climate through appropriate ventilation and shading strategies.
Design Concept
Inspired by the sacred lotus, the proposed "Lotus Canopy" stadium for
Semencheri, Chennai, merges form and function in a harmonious blend of
culture and contemporary architecture. A PTFE membrane roof, resembling
overlapping lotus petals, creates a visually striking and functionally efficient
structure. This innovative design offers natural lighting, ventilation, and
thermal comfort, while also incorporating sustainable features like rainwater
harvesting. The stadium's iconic silhouette will not only be a landmark for
Chennai but will also provide a dynamic and inspiring environment for
athletes and spectators alike.
