REVISION WORKSHEET - TERM-II (20 MARKERS)

SUB: SCIENCE CLASS: VIII

1. Choose the correct option:

1) Two mirrors A and B are placed at right angles to each other. A
ray of light incident on mirror A at an angle of 25∘ falls on mirror
B after reflection. The angle of reflection for the ray reflected
from mirror B would be:
(a) 25∘ (b) 50∘ (c) 65∘ (d) 115∘
2) An optician holds a test card 50 cm behind a patient. The patient
then looks in the plane mirror which is 100 cm away. How far
away from the patient's eyes is the image of the test card ?
(a)100 cm (b) 150 cm (c) 200 cm (d) 250 cm

3) Image of an object is formed on which part of the eye?

a) Iris b) Optic nerve c) Pupil d) Retina
4) Which of the following statements is correct?
a) Cones are sensitive to bright light. b) Rods are sensitive to bright light.
c) Pupil controls the amount of light. d) The transparent front part of an eye is called Iris.
5) What is the near point of a normal human eye?
(a) 20 cm (b) 25 cm (c) 30 cm (d) 40 cm
2. Label the given diagram of the human eye.
3. Name the following:
(a) A device which works on the principle of multiple reflection.
(b) The scientist who discovered dispersion.
(c) The type of mirror which always forms a virtual image.
(d) The time for which the image persists on the retina.
4. Assertion- Reason
(i) Assertion (A): In bright light the size of the pupil is small
Reason (R): Pupil controls the amount of light entering to the eye
(ii) Assertion (A): A prism can split white light into its constituent colours.
Reason (R): Different colours of light bend by different amounts when passing through the prism.
5. Answer the following questions:
(a) Draw diagram to show the difference between regular and diffused reflection. Mention against each of the
following whether regular or diffused reflection will take place when a beam of light strikes. Justify your
answer in each case.
(i) Polished wooden table (ii) Chalk powder (iii) Cardboard surface
(iv) Marble floor with water spread over it (v) Mirror (vi) Piece of paper
(b) Find out the angle of incidence of a ray of light if it is reflected at an angle of 45o.
(c) What are the types of the cells present in the retina?
(d) Explain the ways by which you can take care of your eyes.
(e) What is dispersion of light?
6. Riya was decorating her room and decided to use a plane mirror as a wall piece. She placed the mirror opposite a
window so that sunlight could reflect into her room. She observed that the reflected sunlight lit up specific areas of the
room but not the entire space. Curious about this, she experimented with different surfaces, such as a rough wooden board
and a polished metal sheet, to see how light reflected.
Based on the above situation, answer the following questions:
1. Why does the plane mirror reflect light only into specific areas of the room? Explain using the laws of reflection.
2. How would the reflection pattern differ if Riya used the rough wooden board instead of the plane mirror?
3. Write the characteristics of an image formed by a plane mirror.
7.Question No. 1 to 4 consist of two statements – Assertion (A) and Reason (R).
Answer these questions selecting the appropriate option given below:
a) Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of A.
b) Both A and R are true, and R is not the correct explanation of A.
c) A is true, but R is false.
d) A is False, but R is true.
1. Assertion – We should never handle electrical appliances with wet hands.
Reason – Small amounts of mineral salts present naturally in water make water a good conductor and one
might get a shock.
2. Assertion - Iron is used in bridges and automobiles to provide strength.
Reason - A coating of zinc is deposited on iron to protect it from corrosion and formation of rust.
8. Choose the correct option -
1. Which metal is plated on handle bars of cycles and rim of wheels?
(a) Lead (b) Copper (c) Chromium (d) Iron
2. Identify which is a good conductor?
(a) Plastic (b) Air (c) Wood (d) Tap water
3. Which effect of current causes the bulb to glow?
(a) Heating effect (b) Magnetic effect (c) Chemical effect (d) Light effect
4. We can check the magnetic effect of current using a
(a) filament (b) compass (c) LED (d) torch bulb
9. Give reason for the following:
1. An LED is more efficient device than a bulb.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________

2. Normal water conducts electricity while the pure or distilled water does not.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

3. Tin cans, used for storing food, are made by electroplating tin onto iron.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

10. Answer the following questions: (use separate sheet for writing your answer)
1. Why magnetic compass needle deflect in case of a conducting solution?
2. What happens when an electric current is passed through a cut potato for a considerable time?
3. Why is chromium used for electroplating? Why the objects have chromium plating are not made of chromium itself?
4. Figure shows two electrodes dipped in water. When current is passed through water,
bubbles of X and Y are produced. Identify X and Y. Near which electrode is X produced
or attracted and near which electrode is Y produced or attracted.

5. Ryan and Rabiya performed experiments (Fig 1) taking similar bulb and cells but two
different solutions A and B. They found the bulb is set up A to glow more brightly than
set up B. Explain what can be the reason?

6. Sita and her mother reached a jewellery shop to purchase some

ornaments. She liked a necklace very much but her mother told her
not to purchase it because it is not real gold. When she checked the
information tag, it was written that 1gm gold. The necklace was
quite big and heavy. She was surprised to see it and asked about it. The salesman explained that it is a gold-plated
necklace.
Answer the following questions
i) Identify and define the process involved?
ii) Give two applications of this process?
iii) Where and how the waste produced during this process should be disposed of?
iv) What are the effects produced by the chemical reactions brought about by an electric current?
