S SC CGL: AN INTRODUCTION
Staff Selection Commission conducts SSC Combined Graduate Level examination every year for the
recruitment of Group B and C posts in various ministries/ departments/ organizations of Government
of India. SSC CGL recruitment is conducted for approximately 9000 vacancies. SSC conducts the
SSC CGL exam for various posts like Assistant Section Officer, Assistant Audit Officer, Divisional

E LIGIBILITY CRITERIA
SSC determines the eligibility criteria of SSC CGL. The eligibility criteria of SSC CGL are based on
nationality, educational qualification and age limit. The minimum age requirement to apply for the
exam is 18 years of age. Candidates are required to go through the eligibility criteria before filling out
the online application form.

● The candidate must be a citizen of India.

Educational Qualification

● Essential Qualification: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in any subject from a

A PPLICATION FORM
The registration of candidates for the recruitment exam is done in June/July. The application process
continues for a month. The SSC CGL Application form can be filled in two parts - Part I: Registration
and Part II: filling up the application form. In Part I candidates have to provide their basic information.
In Part II candidates are required to pay the application fee, upload photograph and signature in the
specific dimension and submit the application form. The application fee is Rs 100 for general and
OBC category male candidates. Women/SC/ST and Ex-Servicemen category candidates are
exempted from paying the application fee.

How to fill SSC CGL Application Form


The online application form for SSC CGL can be filled in two parts -

Step 3: Filling the application form - The application part has 21 fields followed by uploading
of photographs and signature. The data/details filled earlier by the candidates at the time of
registration are filled automatically in the respective fields in the application form. The remaining fields
can be filled by candidates.

Step 5: Payment of Examination Fee - Applicants can pay their fee through SBI Challan/SBI Net

exemption claims, should click the ‘No’ button and proceed further to make payment by clicking

E XAM PATTERN
The Staff Selection Commission specifies Exam Pattern of SSC CGL Tier I and Tier II in its
notification. The Commission conducts the recruitment process in two stages – Tier I and Tier II. Tier I
is a written exam carrying objective-type papers, under SSC CGL Exam Pattern. Tier II has three
papers including a skill test.

Points to note:

● Tier-II will include conducting of Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III in separate shifts, days.
● Paper-I is compulsory for all the posts.
● Paper-II will be for only those candidates who apply for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer

(JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and who are shortlisted in
Tier-I for these Posts.
● Paper-III will be for only those candidates who are shortlisted in Tier-I for Paper-III i.e. for the

posts of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer.


● Tier-II (Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III) will consist of Objective Type, Multiple choice
questions, except for Module-II of Section-III of Paper-I. The questions will be set both in
English & Hindi except for the English Language And Comprehension module in Section-II of
Paper-I.
● There will be negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section-I, Section-II and
Module-I of Section-III of Paper-I and of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-II and

The Staff Selection Commission prescribes the syllabus of SSC CGL for Tier 1 and 2. A fair
knowledge of the syllabus is important to crack the exam. SSC CGL syllabus for Tier 1
includes the chapters under English, General Intelligence, Quantitative Ability and General
Awareness sections. SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam (Paper-I, Paper-II & Paper-III) will consist of Objective

A DMIT CARD
The Staff Selection Commission releases SSC CGL admit card two weeks before the exam.
Candidates can download the admit card region-wise. Admit card for Tier 2 is issued for the candidate
who qualifies for Tier 1. SSC releases the admit card at each stage of the exam. Candidates have to
carry at least one photo identity proof along with the admit card to the exam centre.

A NSWER KEY
The Staff Selection Commission releases the answer key of SSC CGL online. Candidates can
download the answer key by entering their roll number, date of birth and exam dates. The answer key
is released for all sets of online question papers – A, B, C, D and for different sessions of the exam.
Based on the correct and incorrect answers, candidates can calculate their probable score and
analyze their performance in the exam. Candidates can even Challenge the official answer key online
if they have any doubts with regard to the answers or questions. To challenge the answer key,
candidates have to pay Rs 100 per answer.

R ESULT
SSC declares the result of Tier I and Tier II exam generally one month after the respective exam.
Candidates, who secure minimum qualifying marks fixed by SSC in Tier I exam, are called for each
stage of Tier II exam. Those candidates, who qualify for paper 1 of tier 2, are called for the next stage
under the Tier II exam.

The SSC CGL Tier 1 and Tier 2 results are announced in form of listing roll numbers and names of
the candidates. The SSC CGL result is the outcome of the performance of the candidates in the
written exam. The SSC will recommend the qualifying candidates for appointment on the basis of the
SSC CGL Tier 1 and Tier 2 exam result

Candidates can check it to know the minimum required marks to enter the next level of the selection

C UT-OFF MARKS
The Staff Selection Commission releases the SSC CGL cut off in online mode on the official website
at ssc.nic.in. The SSC CGL cut off is released separately for each category and stage of the SSC
CGL exam. The cut-off of SSC CGL for Tier 1 is determined from a total of 200 marks and for paper 1
of Tier 2 is determined from a total of 450 marks and paper 2 of Tier 2 is 200 marks and paper 3 of
Tier 2 is 200 marks. The SSC CGL cut off is the minimum score required for a candidate to qualify for
the SSC CGL exam. Candidates can check the previous year’s SSC CGL cut off below.
