ICT 1101 - PC HARDWARE

ASSEMBLY

Course Description
This course is designed to be a
complete, step-by-step approach for
learning the fundamentals of
supporting and troubleshooting
computer hardware and software.
This course is designed to:
• Assemble/setup and upgrade personal computer
systems,
• Perform installation, configuration, and upgrading of microcomputer
hardware and software.
• Install/connect associated peripherals.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot microcomputer systems hardware
and software, and other peripheral equipment.
Learning Objectives
Upon course completion student should be able to:
• Physically identify the components of a computer system.
• Build and/or troubleshoot a personal computer.
• Understand the capabilities and limits of the microcomputer
and OS.
• Understand computer architecture at the operating level -
including expansion buses, operating speed, and memory
addressing capability.
• Have the basic skills required to select an OS for a given
hardware and install properly.
• Install and use the basic features of a Windows, Linux and an
Apple OS.
• Interpret computer beep codes and swap or install appropriate
components.
• Install application software to perform a specific task.
