Dear students, here are the major concepts that students are supposed to learn from General
Psychology. Hence, while answering the following questions, students will have the opportunity to
learn and master those major psychological concepts, theories, perspectives, and approaches.
1. Explain the basic interests and applications of selected early a nd modern perspectives of psychology
such as structuralism, functionalism, gestalt school, psychodynamic perspective, humanistic
perspective, etc.
2. Explain the basic interests and applications of selected branches of psychology such as developmental
psychology, social psychology, forensic psychology, etc.
3. Describe the nature and purpose of, strengths, and weaknesses of at least three research methods in
psychology (Descriptive research methods such as naturalistic observation, participant observation,
single-blind observation, case study, survey study, archival research, etc.; correlational research; and
Experimental research).
4. In your anticipated profession, how would the signal detection theory help you? How are you going to
apply the theory? Can you please list of some of the stimuli that we do not respond to due to sensory
adaptation? (List as many examples you can. The more you list is advantageous).
5. Describe how the different monocular and binocular cues are used in the perception of depth and
distance. How do monocular cues help us judge thickness of something?
6. Recognize and define three basic forms of learning—classical conditioning, operant conditioning, and
observational learning— by providing examples for each.
7. Identify and describe the three stages of memory storage
8. Understand and explain all been proposed as theories of motivation
9. Explain the major theories of emotion
10. Describe the assumptions of the psychodynamic perspective on personality development
11. Discuss the Big Five factors and describe someone who is high and low on each of the five traits
12. Explain how people with psychological disorders have been treated throughout the ages.
13. What do local community of your own do when someone got some sort of psychological disorder:
(assessment, understanding, & treatment in Ethiopia).
